Best pool at Universal resorts?

My 16 DS and 8 DD love the pool at RPR. I think they actually liked it better than HRH. We looked at the pools at PBR, and the large one with the slides/play areas was nice. However it was closed when we were there in Dec

I thought the pools were open year round?? Does anybody know what pools close and when??
BTW--Great Pictures!! Thanks, looks like RPR is the pool my kids would like the best (6,8, 10).

Thanks again everyone! I love to see the pics! I am really leaning towards RPH b/c of tropical feel, and also b/c the AP rate is $79 less/night. Hate to be cheap, but someone in this family has got to put the brakes on it! I'll ask the kids one more time how they feel.

the hard rock pool does have a degree of coolness about it. this isn't the 'cheap guy' in me speaking... the Royal Pacific is our favorite resort overall. the first time we arrived, I think my jaw literally dropped. my daughter was just 7 and proclaimed "this place is too fancy for us" in the lobby. it's been a few years, but the RP is still my favorite.

the pools are open yr round. However they probably are closed on occasion for maintenance, or perhaps the closing was not scheduled (mechanical problem, BM in pool, poor test levels etc)

My kids were 12 and 16 on our last trip, and although we pool hopped they preferred RPH's pool more, even with no slide. They slid a few times at the other pools and wanted to go straight back to the Royal.

We have stayed at the Portofino and pool hopped (which is allowed between Universal resorts) to the Hard Rock pool. Both are wonderfully themed and have terrific slides, although my 11 year old daughter gives a small advantage to the Portofino slide (a little faster). My kids would be disappointed if we went to the Royal Pacific because it doesn't have a slide, which is one of the highlights of being at the pool for them. However, yours may be different, so find out how important a slide is before you make your decision. It is also very easy to pool hop between HRH and Portofino, by the way, since they are close together (both near Universal Studios), while RPH is much farther away (over towards Islands of Adventure).
