I like ours now but the batteries need recharged constantly plus we have to drag along a charger and extra batteries (rechargable) on vacation. Seems like everytime there is a good photo op the darn batteries die.
Any recommendations?
I am not talking art, just family pics, landscape, scenic views, etc.

I just got the Canon Powershot SX260 HS for Christmas. I LOVE it!!!!:cool1:
It has a recharging battery pack that is very easy to use and holds a charge well. 20x optical zoom.
I am in no way a master photographer or even a very good one. I want crisp clear photos of my kids and vacations and I want it to be easy. This fits the bill. I had a certain price point and read all the reviews before I bought and this one has not let me down. It's perfect for me.

I did find when reading the reviews or asking for advice that it got overwhelming. Often those kind enough to help were much more advanced and wanted much more out of their camera than I did and it got confusing. Decide what you want your camera to do, narrow it down in your price range, and then go to a store and see how it feels in your hands and play with it a bit to get a feel for it.
This camera does absolutely everything I want it to do and I couldn't be happier. I spent about $240.. YMMV.:)

Thank you! I was overwhelmed by just a google search. $240 sounds good. I am not a photographer at all so the easier, the better. I just want decent pics and not finding out the battery died at the perfect moment.
Thanks again!

I do not know. I searched point & shoot and came up with some vague answers. Sorry if that is a problem. Can you direct me to that post?:)

I didn't look back very far but the only relevant post I saw on the second page was for camera bags, not cameras.
When I was doing my research I did google search the Disboards and got my recommendation from the photography board on some older threads. Also if you google the name of the camera I gave you (or any camera really) and sample shots you can see pictures people took with their cameras. That's what sold me on the one I ended up getting.:)

Agree with the Canon. I have one, and I love it. I bought a second battery pack when I went to Egypt last year (didn't want to lose any pics!), so I always have one battery in the case ready if I start to lose power. I use the camera at school all the time. Reasonable, good pics, easy enough for kids to use!

I don't know what camera you have, but I have a Sony that uses AA batteries. I was complaining often about having to recharge the batteries and a friend suggested I use lithium batteries (not rechargeable). I started using those and they last a VERY long time! I do carry an extra couple in the camera bag, but I don't need them often.

Not surgeon this board or Community one, but several of us posted there about the Panasonic Lumix. We have had one for 7 years, last year I bought the 16 mp, 20 x zoom. The best go to camera I ever had. I took it to Bermuda last year and never missed my DSLR.

The lens is CarlZwies and bought it at SAMs Club.
