Hi everyone,

I'll be in Disney this coming Christmas (25-29) and we're wondering if some of you will be willing to give away the "best parade viewing" spots for each park. popcorn:: Being that we'll be there during Christmas time, I'm not sure if there are more parades than usual or if some of the parades have been eliminated and replaced with holiday parades for the time being.

What are the best, not-to-miss-out-on parades?

Is there a place I can find out the parade times so we can try to make up a schedule?

Also, how early would you recommend we get in our "spots" before the parades and fireworks start? Does this depend on what parade it is?

Thanks for your help!!

Parades and Fireworks:

At MK, the "3:00pm Parade" starts at the far end of Frontierland, heads up that street, winds over thru Liberty Square (in front of the Hall of Presidents), around the Hub (in front of the castle), up Main Street, around the Flagpole green and exits the park between the Fire Station and Barbershop.

Spectromagic ("lighted" parade) has the same route, except it goes in the OPPOSITE direction even if there are two performances in the same evening.
You'll also want to see "Wishes" the MK's fireworks spectacular.

Because the SpectroMagic parade STARTS at the front and moves SLOWLY to the back of MK, there is big difference in "wait time" between the end of the parade (depending on where YOU are standing) and the beginning of Wishes (which can be seen at the SAME TIME throughout the park).

Following example based on a 9pm start of Spectromagic:

If you watch from near the Main Street Train Station at the FRONT of MK:
Parade Starts- 9:00pm
Parade Over- 9:20pm
>>"Between" wait time- 40 minutes
Wishes Starts- 10:00pm
Wishes Over- 10:13pm

If you watch from near the Splash Mountain at the BACK of MK:
Parade Starts- 9:25pm
Parade Over- 9:45pm
>>"Between" wait time- 15 minutes
Wishes Starts- 10:00pm
Wishes Over- 10:13pm

The preferred spot to watch Wishes is from Main Street or somewhere around the "Hub" (the circular area right in front of the Castle where the other "Lands" are entered.)
The real "SWEET SPOT" is exactly in front of the ICE CREAM shop.
(Don't stand under the umbrella tables, just NEAR them.)
From this spot, the fireworks appear "centered" over the castle from there (very crowded).
Up Main Street as far as the PAL MICKEY store is great viewing as well.
This is where Wishes is DESIGNED to be fully appreciated.
The Castle's front facade (with added lighting and projections) is actually a part of the show.

NOTE: If you go up toward the train station any FARTHER than the PAL MICKEY store... they DON'T turn off the LIGHTS of Main Street in that area. So you'll be viewing with hundreds of lights still in your line-of-sight.

The next-preferred spot is on the bridge between the Hub and Tomorrowland (on the Hub end, not Tomorrowland.)

"Tinkerbell" also flies from the top of the castle over to just above the "Noodle Station" open-air restaurant at one point early in the show.

The reason to see Wishes at least ONCE from the "sweet spot(s)" is that there are "front" fireworks (fired from the roofs of Fantasyland) that are best viewed from in front of the castle.
There are "rear" fireworks that are aimed to erupt behind (and centered over) the Castle.
So, if you can withstand the CRUSH of people, and don't mind the longer "in-between" wait time after the parade goes by, the Main Street area is tops for viewing "Wishes".

WARNING: No matter how tempting in may seem... Do NOT stand on the sidewalk between the Hub and Frontierland OR on the sidewalk between the Hub and Adventureland... the (nearly INVISIBLE in the dark) trees BLOCK the main fireworks and the sound is ABSENT/MUFFLED here (by design?).

AND in spite of how good the idea may look before the show, unless you KNOW EXACTLY what you're doing, do not attempt to view Wishes from the Noodle Station seating area.
The main fireworks are hidden from MOST of the seats at this restaurant area and they don't kill the lights or pipe in the music.

There are PLENTY of other places to see both SpectroMagic and Wishes.
Many here have their favorites.
MY spot is way back in Frontierland by the "Turkey Leg Stand" (we don't eat the legs, but its a great place to view the parade!) As I stated above, the parade reaches this spot by about 9:25pm.

Then, RIGHT after the parade ends, we jog across the "bridge" to Splash Mountain and take a quick ride ("nobody" is in the queue, most folks are still at the parade route).

Then, after the Splash ride, we walk back to the "bridge" from Frontierland and usually get there just in time to see ALL of "Wishes" from there.
The SOUND is supplied back there, and you can see nearly everything (including Tinkerbell).
The things you MISS back there are the fun/beautiful castle-front effects and the symmetry of being in the "center of the stage" for the fireworks.
But the fireworks are HUGE, regardless, and the BIGGEST ones ("rear" fireworks) are actually sent UP from the back of MK, near BTMRR and Splash.

IllumiNations:

Great viewing from:
Bridge between UK and France (under this bridge is where the "IllumiNations Cruise" boats view the show.

The plaza area on the water (lagoon) at Italy.

Near Norway is prime.

Area to left of UK "Pub" (this is also near a roped-off Wheelchair viewing area.)

Front area of WS near the "twin gift shops" (very crowded here). Many times guests are asked to SIT on the pavement so others behind them can see.

Actually too many "good" spots to list.

So pick your spot, and enjoy the show.

Thank you so much for all the detail- I'm printing this and taking this with me :thumbsup2 !!

I just made it all up.

:goodvibes

(No, its my real opinon. And, you're welcome!)

Robo.....WOW!!! :worship: Thank you SO much for typing all that information on the viewing locations. I just printed all of that out and added it to my "Disney Folder" where I'm keeping all my important information on our upcoming trip.

After all that, I hope you don't mind me bothering you again...but, how far in advance would you suggest that we get in our "spot" to watch the fireworks and parades?

Thank you again for your help!! :thanks:

Depends on the date/crowd-level.

If you want to be in the Hub in front of the castle, I'd make sure to check the area 90-120 minutes ahead, if its starting to fill then, better grab your spots.
If not, 45 minutes would be the shortest time I'd ever expect to be able to get a spot there.
Next favorite place would be in front of Hall of Presidents... and on down.

The debate is always, "How much time is it WORTH to spend sitting on a curb?"

I'll leave that up to you.

Robo, hope you don't mind me asking a few questions, but you appear to be the expert with this. Going on your advice, I have decided that we will watch spectromagic from either the main street station platform or frontierland. Having a toddler with us, main consideration is that we don't have to wait very long to stake a spot. I am hoping it will only be 20-30 min. Do you think this is feasible in the first week of Oct at either location? I am guessing it wont be with the station platform, but I would prefer that location as it would a quick exit for us after the fireworks and they are apparently quieter down that end (noise sensitive toddler). How long before parade do you think I would need to be at the station? If we do end up at fronteirland for the parade, is it possible to make our way to the station end of main street for the fireworks?

Are the fireworks good from anywhere in fronteirland? and are they quieter down there?

Thanks for your help

ETA: Rereading your post, if they send up fireworks from parts of fronteirland I am guessing it is quite loud (fireworks not music) from there, would I be right in this?

The train station is a spectacular spot to watch the "Spectromagic" parade.

And a "LESS than great" spot for watching "Wishes".

The reason is, while they DO kill all the outside lighting on Main Street and the train station platform during Spectromagic, they DO NOT turn off the LIGHTS of the train station area (where you are standing) during the Wishes show.

In fact, while they DO kill the lights on Main Street closer to the castle end of the block during Wishes, in recent months, they have started to leave ON the lights of Main Street up past the Cinema/Pal Mickey store and towards the train station end of the block. This is to allow safer exiting by guests who want to leave during Wishes (yes, there are MANY who do). So there are lights shining in your eyes if you are on the train platform, during the whole Wishes show.

What's more, the large Main Street flagpole is sticking up directly in the center of the fireworks... and Tinkerbell's flight is mostly hidden by the Main Street buildings.

Add to that, the fact that the train station "spots" can be taken for an hour (or more) before Wishes begins and it all adds up to a REALLY POOR spot for Wishes viewing.

Here are some PICTURES taken from the train station during Wishes to illustrate what it looks like from there. Note the LIGHTS at this end of Main Street shining in your eyes brighter than many of the fireworks.
Note the FLAGPOLE in the middle of your view.

Anywhere inside MK the fireworks will be about the same level of loudness.
If you want a quieter view, that would be over on the beach at the Poly.

Wishes is the only fireworks show that can be (for the most part) seen from outside the presenting park.
Good viewing can be found at the beach of the Polynesian Resort (walk along the sidewalk there until you see an view of the castle unobstructed by trees.)
The Ohana restaurant at the Poly offers good views (and they pipe in the audio of the show). Same goes for the California Grill Restaurant (and outdoor terrace) at the Contemporary Resort.
At Grand Floridian, Narcoossee's is the restaurant with the MK and Wishes views (and sound).
The MK parking lot (TTC) offers views as well as other outdoor spots for several miles in any direction of MK. But without the sound, you miss a lot of the "show".
