We have been discussing places to eat next year. When we went in June we didn't try many places in Disney. We ate at Mama melrose, Sci Fi, Rainforest Cafe DTD, Cinderellas breakfast.

This time we would like to try more places at Disney. We thought about trying Hollywood and vine for the fantasmic dinner package. With 4 adults and DD we need a good menu with plenty to choose from :) Could everyone reccomend places to eat, make ADRs for. We would like to try Chef Mickeys and another charachter breakfast. I have heard loads of names, Ohanas, Boma, Beaches and Cream. We tend to have a snack during the day and a meal in the evening so it will be mostly evening ADRs apart from a chrachter breakfast. Also any places off Disney that are great to eat!

Thanks guys

Hi Nat - can you tell me where these restaurants are?
Have only ever eaten at Chef Mickeys before for breakfast - so can only recommend that really.

off Disney - Sweet Tomatoes (it's near Wet & Wild)

onsite Disney - so many....hmmm....pretty much everywhere we've eaten has been reasonably good (with a few exceptions)...

--50's Prime Time Cafe - we go here for the 'fun', but the food isn't bad either....we usually have lunch here, but in addition to lunch, i had dinner here with my sister in september....the dinner menu is different from the lunch menu....the dinner salmon was very nice - much much better than what i was expecting....my sister said the chicken was very good as well...the CMs were excellent when i was there with my sister...really into the play acting...which was great, since it was my sister;s first time there...she really had a wonderful time....at times she couldn't stop laughing, they were all so funny....

--Whispering Cafe (at the WL) - we've only been here for breakfast, but that was very good...i've heard other meals are good as well....

-- the character breakfast at the Chrystal Palace in the MK is very good for a character breakfast (we tend to avoid anything with characters, as my kids are no longer interested - but we did this breakfast for my mom's 78th birthday this year and it was very enjoyable...even my mom, who is very proper and upper crusty, liked it and had only good things to say...)

-- Citricos at the GF - the salmon here was the best salmon i've had ever...

--the GF cafe - excellent service and the food was very good as well...

i feel like i'm leaving something out....

How many hours have you got spare Michelle? ;)

We love:

Le Cellier, Boma, 50s PTC, 'Ohana, Cape May Cafe, Jiko, Flying Fish Cafe, Hollywood Brown Derby, and many others, all for different reasons :)

If you fancy any of the above let me know and I will expand upon why we liked it there so much :)

'Ohaha at the POlyneasian Hotel is good, especially with little ones as they have coconut races etc. If you want a lot of choice then the buffets may be best, Crystal Palace (in MK) is very good, with Winnie the Pooh characters, Cape May tends to be a little less crowded that some of the otuers and it also good.

Other that are good include Chef Mickeys, Beaches and Cream (Yacht Club) for burgers and ice cream sundaes, Pecos Bill (in MK) has burgers with a fixings bar that is quiet good. For table service Whispering Cannon (WL) is fun for the children, Le Cellier is a little more fancy but does great steaks (in Canada in the WS at Epcot).

I like Boma, but I think it is a bit over rated, and I would not go to Narcossess, an expensive streak and seafood restaurant with nothing outstanding about it, although a lot of other people like it. Hollywood Brown DErby is very nice and good value on the FDP, but may be a little restrcitve if the child is very young, but I didsee quite a few there (mine are teenagers). California Grill (contemprary) is also nice and you can watch the fireworks from there as well.

The Hollywood and Vine is a buffet, but I also found it to have less choice than other buffets in WDW.

Outside of the parks if you want a good nice meal then Texas De Brazil on International drive is very nice. There are also the chains, Denny's, IHOP, Boston Lobster Feast.

On the list for us to look at so far i have got, 1900 park fare for Breakfast, 50s PT cafe, Beaches and Creamfor lunch, Boma for dinner (would love to know what the food is like here), Chef Mickeys, Le cellier dinner, Ohanas, Whispering canyon. The lsit is huge :teeth: Mmmmmmm can't stop thinking about all the food :teeth:

I know a lot of people love the 50's Prime Time Cafe, but peronally I don't go there becasue I don't want to be told I can't have oudding unless I eat all my greens. I don't mind having fun, but that is a personal taste thing.

Boma is a buffet, it has food with an african slant. There is usually a prime rib there and some other meats with different spices (moslty spicey rather than hot). A good range of salads and a really big range of desserts. The soups are also very good. It is nice and different, it can be loud, but don't expect something tremendous, as it is sometimes built up a lot.

One other that comes to mind is Liberty Tree Tavern in the MK for dinner which has characters includsing chip and dale. It is a family style meal, so an all you can eat but served to the table on big plates so you can help yourself. This includes with roast turkey, flank steak, mashed potatoes, macaroni cheese etc. Dessert is not incuded, and although the menu does not sound that exciting it is actually very good food (not like resturant prepared bland roast turkey we get in the UK).

We loved Boma Michelle. It was our favourite buffet there.

I have been to quite a few WDW buffets but never have I seen one with so much choice! There were 5 soups alone (all absolutely scrumptious).

It's so hard to describe but I found all the dishes very flavoursome, I would not call them spicy (definitely not hot) but they were all full of flavour. It is going to depend on how hot you like your food as to how much you agree with me there LOL

My DDs loved trying all the cous cous, meats, stews and soups etc but there were also "kids fare" if you need to use that.

The desserts were very nice - lots of cake / individual pastries in the main, very tasty.

We had great servise and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. To be honest it's also a plus to go to Boma as it gives you an excuse to check out AKL :)

This buffet scored 10/10 with us.

I will dig out my reviews from my trip report last year as well for 'Ohana, Le Cellier, Beaches & Cream & 50s PTC :)

The Whispering Canyon Cafe was one of he few meals we had where the food was decidedly average - though it was excellent fun and a great experience I would not rush back beacuse the food was so much better elsewhere. I am sure others have had differemt experiences though :)

good point......this is something people should definitely be mindful of, if they're considering the prime time cafe......
if you don't want people scolding you (in fun) or sending you off to wash your hands before lunch, or making you stand in the corner for putting your elbows on the table, then this isn't the place for you...

whenever we eat there, it's rather obvious when there are people who aren't comfortable with it..
but if you like this sort of thing, it can be great fun...
when i was there for dinner with my sister, i was worried that we wouldn't get a very active CM....but we did.....in fact the whole room was into it (that is, all the tables in our section were very into the whole game of it..)..

my sister didn't finish her food, but wanted to order dessert....so naturally, the CM made a HUGE deal over it...and called "mom" (another CM - i think the person who took us to the table to begin with) in to scold my sister...and the "mom", cut a piece of chicken and had the room make airplane noises as she fed my sister the chicken....my sister nearly choked to death she was laughing so hard....it was absolutely perfect for her....

we always have a great time there....what can i say...we're kind of corny americans who like that sort of thing.....plus the decor is EXACTLY like the decor of the house i lived in when i was little (in the 50's)....it's scary how much it looks like our house....in fact, i think they stole our kitchen table....

anyway, you're quite right to bring it up, because anyone who wouldn't enjoy this sort of thing, probably should go some place else...

i'm coming back to add one thing unrelated to what i wrote above - the prime time cafe has THE best chocolate milkshakes on property...probably about 3,000 calories, but boy are they good....

CHEF MICKEYS!!!!

You already have this on your list but I am just pitching in to encourage you to make it a definate!

We may not go back next year, Loads more to try (especially as we missed 2 of our adr's this time round  ) but I would recommed it to anybody, especially if you have kids.

One of DD's and my fave meals last visit was at Artist's Point in WL. Delicious food with interesting wine pairings from more obscure (well to me anyway) US wine growing areas. Loved it so much I'm definitely going back with DH next summer. We also enjoyed the clambake buffet at Cape May Cafe in BC. Other than that I have to echo what people have said about Ohana's - it's great fun. :flower:

We loved Jiko's at AKL, GF Cafe - definitely NOT a typical cafe, Cape May Clam Bake at BC, Spoodles at Boardwalk - but were extremely disappointed with California Grill at CR.

Best counter service by a mile is Tangerine Cafe at Morocco in Epcot.

Sci Fi - cos I loved the car and the onion rings!
Concourse Steak House - becuase the mash potatoe was ace and DS got a flashing ice-cube
Chef Mickeys - we went for dinner and breakfast - dinner was better (wasn't too sure about the peanut butter pizza DS picked for his breakfast!)
The best meal was at Liberty Tree Tavern - really basic food but it was coupled with a brilliiant day at the Magic Kingdom!!!

Hi
we did Hollywood and vine fantasmic package and the food was ok( as other have siad its a basic buffet) but it was great to have PS for the show- worth it just for this.

We also did Chef Mickey charter breakfast, which again was ok( very busy) best bit for us was getting a front seat in the monorail after breakfast( ask the driver as you borad)

We couldn't get into Cinderlla breakfast but we went to the castle for lunch and felt it was over-rated( maybe more suiable for a younger daughter thatn a 10y/o son)

We Love BOMA and would agree with the person who rated it 10/10- excellent place and my son loved it.

Enjoy

when we did the fantasmic dinner package several years ago, we ate at the Brown Derby......it was excellent, but i didn't mention it in my first post since it was several years ago....restaurants sometimes change (for better or worse) so i wouldn't want to mislead you.....but when we ate there (it must have been about 4 years ago, we very much enjoyed it....the service was outstandingly professional (far superior to what we experienced at the CG) and the food was very good....but again, that was 4 years ago...

also, the Tangierine Cafe in EPCOT is nice for a lunch snack.....we ate there several times....just pitas and homous.....it was pretty good......

another restaurant we like for lunch is the Plaza Restaurant in the MK....it's small and the tables are nicely spaced so you don't feel overwhelmed with that crowded feeling you get in some restaurants....we only ever order the tuna sandwich there, which is a very good one.......the MK mayor usually stops in during lunch for an amusing ceremony....

Some of our favourites from our April trip were:

Hollywood and Vine at MGM for the Fantasmic Dinner Package, I thought there was plenty of choice (buffet) and the food was very tasty.

Crystal Palace (character meal at MK) we went for lunch and there was lots of great choices plus loads for the kids, the character interaction was great too.

Clam Bake at the Cape May Cafe which is at the Beach Club (I think), again this was a buffet but had a huge choice. It was perfect for DH and I as he loves seafood and I hate it, had loads of clams, seafood but also loads for a meat eater like me and lots for the kids too. We went here before our Illuminations Cruise, the server was the best we have ever had too.

Donalds Breakfastasauras (sp?) was a fun character breakfast with a delicious breakfast buffet, def recommend the breakfast pizza.

Some that we wouldn't do again were:

CRT breakfast, for all they hype and trouble getting in I though the food wasn't that great, although it was nice to meet all the princesses and eat inside the castle. The food is served family style and unfortunately my picky kids didn't eat much.

Chef Mickeys for dinner was a bit disappointing after all the great reviews I had read.
