Hi all,

My laptop is pretty buggy. Despite running virus scans and trying to eliminate them, my PC runs really slow and often freezes. I am thinking of taking my PC in to something like Best Buy to have them clean it up so-to-speak. Has anybody had any luck doing this, and if so, about how much does it cost? Who do you recommend? Office Depot, Best Buy, etc?

Thanks!

Honestly, I wouldn't trust any of those stores will my computers. They are not that well trained and could mess up too much. Especially Best Buy! Stay far far far away from them. I had a friend work for the "Geek Squad" and it was pathetic how little they actually know and are trained.

How old is your laptop? What scanner did you use? Have you defragged it recently?

I would find a friend, somebody I trusted to work on it. We had a computer that crashed. Best Buy told us it was totally unrecoverable. Our friend brought it back to life and updated it -- that was 3 years ago.

Save your photos and documents, format the drive and reinstall windows. That will bring it back to life. Or get a mac

Get a Mac. No Viruses, no slowdowns, no freezes. It's a beautiful computer.

I have to join the last two posters. Save your files, documents, etc and buy a Mac... Once you go Mac you won't go back.

Honestly, I'm probably biased because I work there, but Staples. I've seen the training our guys have, and I know they're reliable. Do a free PC tune up, and it's risk free to boot. It'll speed it up at least a little, and they'll be able to tell you the next step if necessary (Virus Removal, more RAM, etc)

I have to giggle at the MAC comments. Most MACs are a simple waste of money and perform no better then a PC. There has also been an increase in the number of viruses being written for MACs. It's not that the MAC is immune to getting a virus, it is that it wasn't worth writing them since you want to hit as many computers as possible and MACs were still a minority.

I have never had a virus on this machine. I have not had any crashes or slow downs. I don't have to worry about a program or game being available for me.

MACs are not some amazing machine like people think they are.

Ask around in your area. We have a fabulous small business in our area that started as one man and he has had to hire on a few more people. They take a day or so to diagnose the system, call you with an estimate and then repair it.

I would look for a local reputable person.
