Hi All,

Last year we took our first trip to DLR and had a blast! The kids are begging to come back this year after the new Cars Land opens in June. Last year we stayed in PP and LOVED it! Would love to stay there again this year but don't think I can convince hubby to pay the price (last year we got a heck of a deal renting points from a DVC member - ended up being around $100/night).

So....where would you advise staying that is comparable to PP but without the price tag....but also within easy walking distance to the parks? Me and the kids love to get up for character breakfasts but hubby, not so much. He prefers to join us at the parks later. I want to be close enough where I can safely and easily walk alone with two little ones.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

I've stayed at the Best Western Park Place Inn and Mini Suites 2x and was happy both times. The walk to the park is great (it's right at the crosswalk). Rooms were okay, weren't dirty, wasn't fancy, but the price and location was great.

This summer after Cars Land opens, did you see the perk on early entry to DCA if you are staying onsite? Might be something to think about.... :)

Have fun

I don't think you'll find anything comparable to PPH in walking distance. All the walking distance lodging are basic motels. Here are two maps to help you see the pedestrian entrance and location of nearby lodging. Best Western Park Place and Park Vue Inn are typically considered the closest. Howard Johnson (HoJos) is the most recommended for families and cleanliness. It typically gets timed in at a 8-12 minute walk. Some talk has been about which side of the street is "safer" to walk along, however, the most I've heard about are homeless and/or mentally ill individuals.

I'm staying at the Best Western Park Place Inn again.

I like the room layout. Sofa bed and desk and then the 2 Queen beds (or a King), TV, microwave, fridge, sink and bathroom. There was lots of room when it was just my niece and I. I think a family of 4 would find it spacious enough.

I heard they are doing some tests on their free continental breakfast. Sounds like they are trying out some hot options (pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage). I hope they decide on adding a make your own waffle station like they had at another BW I stayed at.

That is a Awesome map!!
Even though I have been to DLR a ton of times over the last 35 years, this is very helpful! Thanks so much! :lovestruc

I personally loved carousel more than Paradise pier hotel...the beds were super comfy and its a shorter walking distance than PP! This year we are staying at Fairfield Inn! going the 12-18 :)

....and the awesome map!!! I'm still trying to convince hubby that PP is a good choice for us but I do agree with him - it is just too expensive. I know a pp said they preferred CCI to PP so I may check in to staying there.

Have any of you ever stayed at HoJo?

We have stayed at PP, Camelot, and Hojo, plus some others not in walking distance. We will always stay within walking distance now. We really liked Hojo, especially getting it at the retro rate. The PP was very nice, but too expensive to stay at again. The Hojo had bigger rooms, much nicer beds and pillows, lovely grounds, and was a nicer overall experience than the Camelot. It was very much worth the few minutes extra walking distance. We'll definitely be going there again, staying in Building 2, our favorite.

I love Hojos and PVI

If the weather is swimming suitable then I would go for Hojos. If it will be too cool for the kids to use the pirate water play area then the Park Vue Inn.

I think they both off much better value than PP

The Candy Cane Inn, they are within walking distance but they also have a free shuttle available if you care to take it.
