This may not be the right place to ask this question, but here goes! I know DISers are a tolerant bunch.

We would like to rent boats this trip and I know where the boats are to be found, however I would love to hear which location provides a nice place to ride...not too congested, interesting, or whatever you think makes a really enjoyable time on the water.

Rent from any of the 5 MK area Resorts.

The SeaRaycer's engines rented there are set with the ability to run faster,
and the scenery on and around both huge MK area lakes is fantastic!

DH and I rented at the Poly and took that little boat all over the Lagoon and Bay Lake! It was awesome! You can totally go wherever you'd like and spend as much time in one spot as you want.

FYI: My favorite baseball cap blew off, but we were able to circle around and pick it up but it wasn't as easy as you'd think. Please keep the breeze in mind if you are wearing your favorite cap!

We always rent from the Grand Floridian...

We'll usually take a park bus/monorail over and stroll back to the Marina. There's never been a wait and raycers were always available!

Since the GF is tucked away it's always been 'easy' to get our bearing and familiar with the boats without feeling like we're in the way of resort transportation and ferries.

Once comfortable we usually head right for the waterway along the Contemporary and tool around Bay Lake before returning to the Seven Seas Lagoon.

It's a must every trip and such a nice break from the park crowds. 45min rentals seemed like just enough time to explore Bay Lake and SSL, though we could easily go longer!

we rented at the YC and its fun to cruise around the BW/BC/YC area and then up past the swan and dolphin to HS. Pretty quiet over there

Definitely the Bay Lake / 7 Seas Lagoon. We were staying at Poly last summer and decided to rent 3 sea raycers and we had a great time; some traffic on seven seas lagoon with the ferry and other boats, as well as slow crossover from the lagoon to Bay lake. Bring sunscreen and a hat; it gets hot out there! Weight will definitely affect the speed as my 2 kids were running circles (not literally) around me. Your MYW package will also have a discount coupon and I believe allears.net also has a 15% discount coupon for Sammy Duvall's at CR

Rent from the Wilderness Lodge resort
simply because the parking situation is easiest, they have plenty of boats and the lodge itself is pretty cool to look at.

If you're going to have a meal, or just want to look around any other resort, then that would dictate your choice.

Make sure you ask if you are allowed to boat over to the 7 seas lagoon though...I recall a thread where Disers were not allowed to cross over the water bridge. This might affect your decision.

Sorry, but this is not the case.

Unless the water bridge is restricted due to a specific and unique situation,
boats rented from any and all of the MK area resort marinas can freely cross (at "idle speed") between the two lakes.

This is awesome (thanks for one of your fabulous maps, too, Robo!)

Sounds like Bay Lake will suit us to a T. I was really happy to hear that you can cross the water bridge. We love touring the resorts and GF is my DD's favourite, so I think we will head there or to FW, as we have never visited that one yet. Funny thing, when we made our very first family trip in 1994, there was an pre-opening Open House at FW. Still kicking myself we didn't make time for that.

I love the idea of going for a pre- or post-boating meal at a resort, too. We stay off-site but enjoy immersing ourselves in WDW as much as possible.

How old do the kids have to be to drive them? I have DS 16, 14 and 8 (who would obviously be with me.)

did it once, rented from the Wilderness Lodge. Anyplace around Bay Lake and 7 Seas Lagoon is a good place to rent.

From the Disney site:

Up to 2 Guests
Your very own mini-powerboat, Sea Raycer by Sea Ray® fits up to 2 Guests. Drivers must be 12 years of age and up and at least 5 feet tall; younger Guests may ride as passengers. The maximum combined weight permitted for a Sea Raycer by Sea Ray® is 320 pounds.

Have always done it at the Contemporary. Strictly from a nostalgia standpoint, we like to zip around the remains of Discovery Island/Treasure Island, and then over to the River Country ghost town before crossing the bridge to Seven Seas Lagoon.

I think you mean WL not FW. WL opened in 1994 and FW opened in 1971.
