Hardly ever write checks anymore but use Image Checks when I need to. They are the only ones I've found where I can get the top-stub check. I don't really know how their prices compare but the service has been good.
Good advice..just beware that some of the places that have flyers in the paper (like Designer Checks) offer the good deal for first time buyers. Believe me..if you forget you used them before and order again, they will cash your check, send your checks and then send you a bill for the difference. It was over 35.00 for their "special re-order price" and that is after the original amount I paid! So..watch out..This time I went with Bradford (know I never used them before). and from then on I will use walmart.
This always worried me, because I can't remember where I got checks before. This time I ordered the checks online instead of sending the order in the mail. When I entered in the information, they informed me that I had ordered from them in the past, but was eligible for the promotion that they were also offering to new members (maybe since I had ordered from them such a long time ago??). Well anyway, I got a really good deal. It was from Checks Unlimited. From now on, I think I will order online just to avoid what you ran into without being charged after the fact. It worked out for me this time.

This also happened to me. They did send an email that saying "your checks are on their way", that had the higher total on the very bottom under a ton of other ads. Truthfully, I didn't see it, but even if I had, I'd have assumed it was the "regular" price just being listed. There was no mention of an additional amount due.
A while later, I got a letter from a collections agency for the balance due. ALOT of phone calls and letters to the Better Business Bureau and they did drop it. I can see rejecting the order if you've already ordered from them, but the bait and switch thing is a scam! (FWIW, I am fairly positive I'd nevered ordered from them before, and they couldn't tell me when it was I had.)
Thank you OP for starting this post and a big thank you to everyone who suggested Walmart checks!
Dh has worked for WM for 13 years and I had no idea they did checks - duh! Just ordered some Pixie Dust (Tinker Bell and Friends) checks. Perfect timing too I was just thinking of ordering more the other day!!
I have ordered and re-ordered from Current Catalog. For all three accounts we have. I don't know that they are the cheapest out there, but they have been great with customer service and I have had no problems with my orders or hidden fees.
You know what stinks? I just ordered checks through my bank and paid a whole lot of money for just a basic check. I would have paid less than half for Mickey checks through Walmart -- what a bummer!
I think I ordered 2 boxes and since I only write checks for church collection and miscellaneous payments for classes or something like that, these will last us forever .. Bummer!
I was just thinking the other day that I was spending too much on checks and needed to check (no pun intended) on something less expensive. Thank you and Wal-Mart or Sams here I come.
