best place to eat at Disney Studios?

We just ate at 50's prime time the other day and it was alot of fun. We were absolutely starving by the time we ate. The food was was yummy. Great meatloaf.. excellent fried chicken.
Deffinately not gourmet fare.. but tasty nonetheless.
The absolute best moment was when our server was taking our order and didn't even look over at my son .. but mid sentence she raised her voice a tad and said "Sport.. get those elbows OFF the table!"
My poor ds not only whipped his elbows off the table but never dared to put them there the rest of the meal:lmao: (He's only 4).
It was really cute.

Sci Fi is one of our favorites. It is so fun (and we don't have kids ;) ) Hubby 39 and me 33, parents go too sometimes (60 & 61) along with various friends & family members. You can't beat the drive in atmosphere. Hubby tends to get a burger or ribs (though ribs aren't like at BBQ joints at home) and I always get spinach cheese dip as my meal! Yummo~ We've eaten there dozens of times, also never been "bothered" by other guests we've sat with. We're always in our own row and unaware pretty much of people behind or in front of us. Some cars seat 4 and others seat 6.

Mama Melrose's is also a favorite and we eat there a ton. It is easier to get into and we love the food, their flat breads are fabulous. It's not big on atmosphere, so better for groups without small kids who want to be entertained through their meal. We recommend it though for sure!!

50's is fun, but we didn't really enjoy the food. We are serious "southerners" who enjoy chicken pot pie and fried chicken, but the Disney style sure isn't "like mama makes" in our books. It's a cute and fun place, but we've been pickin' Sci Fi or Mama Melrose's instead now for 8 years.

Always talk about Brown Derby, but can't see spending even more money and we end up changing our minds. Did eat at Hollywood & Vine years and years ago, it wasn't memorable I guess since we always choose others. We have done pizza planet for lunch when in a hurry and needing something cheap. Fun for kids, who doesn't like pizza?! Got a chicken salad at one of the other counter service places that was pretty good and how can you really do a hotdog or hamburger "wrong" if that's what your after.

We eat at Mama Melrose's or Sci Fi on every trip, multiple times a year.

We lovednthe brown derby with the kids for lunch (cheaper) We paid cash instead of using 2 dining credits. we wante the cobb salad, so not too expensive. Will go again next year . Guess we need to go to 50s next time!

TBD has the best food. We always do the Fantasmic Pkg. there. DH loves 50's PTC. He doesn't ask for much but, wants to eat there every trip. It's a lot of fun. We've been lucky and always have had great servers.

We really enjoyed the 50's Prime Time last trip. The chicken was delicious and DH loved his Pot Roast. Our server was just right, a bit of fun but not over the top.
We have never eaten at either Sci Fi or Brown Derby, so I can't comment on them.
Hollywood & Vine is 1 of only 2 restaurants on property that we will NEVER return to. Loud, dirty restaurant, surly waitress, filthy restroom and terrible food. Never Again.
CS in DHS is not great but we find the Backlot Express to be passable.
Have a Great Trip.

50's Prime Time- The food is very good(awesome fried chicken, meatloaf, and AMAZING desserts)and it is a blast in there.

Sci-Fi- We did it once for lunch and we didnt really care for it. The kids liked eating in the cars, but that was the only good thing about Sci-Fi.

Mama Melrose- The food was really good, and it is beautiful in there.

Hollywood And Vine- Yuck, yuck, yuck.. never returning back.

Hollywood Brown Derby- Have not eaten here, but hear good things.

So if I were you, I would go with 50s Prime Time Cafe, or Mama Melrose's.

50sPT--fun atmosphere...food's ok....nothing spectacular

Sci-Fi--love the atmosphere. I've only eaten hamburgers there, but I thought they were all really good

H&V--eh...just eh

ABC Commissary--ewwwwww.

Mama Melrose's--I really enjoyed it. Nice. Kinda quiet. Good food.

I think both the Sci-fi and Prime Time are good, but I prefer Prime Time food better, both are great theme restaurants. I really depends on what you are looking for. ;)

The only place I will eat is at the BD other then that I have tried all the others and I can't say I liked any of them

As much as I love DHS, especially now with Toy Story Mania, the food there is disappointing. We are usually on the Dining Plan and I would hate to waste TS credits at lunch time so we always eat CS. I haven't been that impressed with any of the options.

I love the Sci-Fi theme, but the food is not that good, it is difficult for a picky eater.

Now 50s prime time has a fun theme and delicious food. Home cooking kind of food.

If you are looking for more fast food I enjoy Backlot Express and ABC Commissary.

We ate at Sci-Fi on Thursday last week and we had a great time. The burgers we got were perfect-the only burgers we had all week and they hit the spot!

Our waiter was attentive and was training someone else-we never had to ask for refills or anything, it was very quick to place our order and get it, and quick to get dessert (but not so quick we felt rushed). The movies were a nice distraction for our 2 kids and we were happy to take a quiet break on our 5th day there in the middle of the day.

Hollywood Brown Derby is awesome!!!!!! The Sci-Fi is good too but HBD is the best.

We (we being my husband and I, in our late thirties, no kids) went to Disney Studios last April and ate at 50's Prime Time Cafe for lunch and Sci-Fi diner for dinner.

We had a hoot at 50PTC. Our server was amazing (we've later seen her on a Travel Channel video of Disney World Restaurants, so she may well be one of the best). Quite funny, attentive, chiding but not overly so. The food was pretty good. Nothing to write home about but good. We did not end up ordering dessert as the table next to us had a cake they couldn't finish and they asked the waitress to cut slices off for the tables all around them and they were nice enough to do so no charge. We would most definitely go back.

Dinner was simply amazing. I don't know about the rest of the food at the Sci-Fi Diner, but my husband and I had the Beef with Blue salad and it was the best thing we have ever had at any Disney Restaurant and we'd be happy to order it again at any restaurant. So very, very good. Service was very nice in an unobtrusive way. We shared a six person 'car' with another family, but they were fairly quiet and it was quite pleasant.

I had some trouble deciding on where we would eat on our upcoming trip. Places I've been:

Sci Fi Dine In - I love this place! We eat here every time we go to Disney for the atmosphere, it's truly one of the most magical Disney restaurants. The food isn't great, which is why this year we have chosen to pay OOP for lunch since I didn't feel it was worth a TS credit on the dining plan.

Mama Melrose - I've eaten here several times too, mostly when I was younger. The food is good and I've never seen it crowded, but on the inside it looks like a typical Italian restaurant, not very magical considering it's in the park.

I've never eaten at 50's Prime Time, but we will be going there for the first time in December and the pictures of the deserts are what convinced me!

Good thread. I've been in a quandry this weekend. Now that we have free dining, I've got one more TS to use. DHS is the only park day I feel I can add one to without being overscheduled. I'm going to call tonight to see if there are any Fantasmic packages left, but I have a feeling there won't be. So I want a backup choice and I can't decide.

I'm leaning toward 50's PTC for lunch. If we don't have a Fantasmic package my plan was to pick up some CS to eat in the amphitheater while we wait.

Not sure how my girls would like Sci-Fi. They don't like creepy/scary movies of any sort, would that be a problem?

Hopefully everything won't be booked up at this point...

On the other hand, if we arrive at RD to get on TSM, and want to stay for Fantasmic, maybe I will look into a resort restaurant for lunch for a break?
