Alright, Christmas plans have been totally messed up. We were going skiing for Christmas - bought all the gear back in the spring and had planned to go to Snowshoe. Well, DH has ruptured his achilles tendon and will be on crutches until the end of January - so skiing is out.

BUT, now I've got all these clothes that aren't going to fit the kids next Christmas. None of us have even been skiing - we live in Florida - and honestly, the kids just want to be in snow. So since I don't want DH on skiis right after his surgery, we've decided to take a later trip (February or March) and just go somewhere so the kids will have the snow to play in. We definitely want someplace that has tubing. In other words, we're just going to skip the skiing right now, and do all the rest of the stuff. Like I said, tubing is a must, but also ice skating for the kids would be nice.

Any suggestions on the best place to go? We're just going to tell the kids that we're skipping the skiing this time and leaving that for our next trip. And yes, budget is definitely a MUST. DH is out of work while he's on crutches, so we need to go as cheap as possible.

I do not know how far you want to travel, but we have GREAT places here to tube, skate, and MANY other winter activities. Your months are great.

I can PM you many places. We stay at one up north that has the tubing right on the hotel site. It is near Mt. Tremblant, but not exactly in it, so it is much cheaper. You can drive there at night in 5 minutes and do many other activities.

Let me know if you are interested. Sorry to hear about your DH, and hope he heals quickly.

The Colorado resorts are fantastic.

We have two mountains open already and the rest are going to open this month.

You can get lots of information about everything to do, snow reports and discounts at http://www.coloradoskicountry.com/, http://www.skicolorado.com/ and www.coloradoski.com.

You might want to look into Breckenridge as they have indoor and outdoor skating rinks and tubing. There are also lots of other activities to enjoy up in the mountains such as dog sledding, sleigh rides, snowmobile tours and lots of shopping.

Guess I should have clarified - we're looking at the east coast. I'm looking at Hawksnest right now. Anyone ever been there before?
