Best place for hair braiding

travlnman1, curious - how much do they charge at the Y&BC for the half braids?

Any suggestions on how to prevent a sunburned scalp after getting the braids?

Use the spray on suntan lotion.
My DD's and i got ours done onboard July a year ago. We all got just the crown done and it was 2.00 a braid. They even redid my DD7's the next day for no charge because it was falling out. I will say that when they do the temple area it hurts ALOT!!!!!!! DD's hair lasted about a month after we got back, mine about 3 weeks. Washing it is no problem, just don't rub real hard. The trick to getting the braids out is to put alot of conditioner on, don't wash it out and the beads, rubber bands and braids will slide right out.

Be prepared - alot of hair comes out when you take them down! I'm sure some is the dead hair that would have fallen out anyway, but it is still scary!
I was sure there was some horrible problem the first time :rotfl:

anyone bothered by the sound of the beads clanking together?

i got mine done on the ship! i got 10 half braids. it was around 25 dollars. i did it 11 in the morning the second day. it lasted around 3 weeks after. i really loved it. all you have to do is book once you get on the ship or after the sailaway party. that way, it takes away no time from your stops.

Lenshanem...I cant remember how much it was at the Y and B Club exactly but I'm thinking my DD had the top of her head done and it was like $45.00?
They did an outstanding job too.
We've had it done there twice. Everyone always wants to know where she got her hair done afterwards.

Friends of ours had their daughter's hair done on the ship, and from what we noticed they tend to do fewer braids than the skinny ones on CC. Also when they do the crown (half braids), they weave the hair through the beads differently than they do at CC. It makes them lay a little flatter to the head I guess. Not sure if you can notice the difference in some of the pictures posted. We liked the look of the smaller "cornrow" skinny braids and opted to wait for CC.

Another reason I wanted to wait to have the braids done at CC was that I'm not sure I wanted beads in her hair that clashed with her formal on formal night.

I had mine done in Nassau in the big open area right when you get off the boat. At first I walked right by because they keep yelling at you "you want to get your hair braided?!?" and I was like no!! but then when it was time to get back on the boat and we walked back by again, i stopped to look at the pictures and really liked it. I have thick long hair and the woman said it would be $100. I didn't want to pay that so I started walking away. She asked what I wanted to pay and I said $40, she asked if I would pay $50 and I said yes. I loved how it turned out!! And I loved that I didn't have to worry about my hair for several days afterwords too. I got to pick out all my own color beads too (I'm a little a.d.d that way, they all had to match!) The only downfall was taking it out. I remember my mom and I sitting on one of the beds in the Polynesian one night after being in the park all day trying to take out the braids... it took forever!!!!!!

Thanks! That is a great deal when you compare it to getting those hair wraps. My oldest DD has such long hair I can easily spend close to $80 on a single wrap for her. And now my youngest DD's hair is getting long, too! I have them booked for NYE morning at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, maybe I should get them braids instead??? It would last longer and they could go back to school and show their friends. They've already done BBB before, too...

How far out did you make an appointment? This sure would be easier to get back inside Epcot since we'll staying at BCV.

I had our 2 DDs 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 done on the ship the day after we boarded. I brought lollipops for them and they didn't say a word the whole time. You can request how many braids you want so you are not spending $45 on a 3 yo for braids. I asked for 9 braids on each child in the "crown" so with the tip it cost $20 a piece.

It looked beautiful the only problem is the bands kept breaking and after they redid it a second time they just refunded my money. They said the box of hair bands must of had dry rot but I think maybe it was the type of sunscreen I used that caused the bands to rot mostly because the little girl that had her hair braided before my DDs had no problem with broken bands. My dds and the 2 other girls in our party that had their hair braided and also used our suncreen had broken bands. The redo was not great since I didn't have another pop for the girls so there was some whining involved.

I will definately have their hair braided again in April.

I would call the boutique directly and ask how much it costs. Don't go by my memory, it seems to work less and less these days!
We only made the appointment 1 day ahead but it wasn't over a holiday. I'm sure for the holidays, you'll need to plan in advance.
The kids LOVE to go home and show off their braids.

I just skimmed thru the posts but I don't think anyone mentioned that on the ship (we were on the Magic in March) you can specify how many braids you want. I was scoping out little girls before my DD (7) had her appointment--I knew she would be in pain so I wanted to do a half-head with as few braids as possible while still looking cute--so we did 8 braids. I think if you don't tell them how many you want, you end up with many more.

The other tip for removal (DD had hers in for about 3 weeks total and they still looked good by the time we removed them) is to just drench the braids in conditioner and snip the rubber bands. DD did lose a lot of hair but was not freaking out while I took them out, as I expected she would.
