Where is the best place to get free moving boxes?

How do you arrange getting them? (I called BOTH Target AND Walmart, and BOTH said that they couldn't "hold" boxes, even if collaposed, as it was a fire marshall regulation, and they go straight to a baler.)

I am mostly looking for LARGE boxes.

I would find out when deliveries come and try and catch them in the act aka- unpacking on the retail floor. Maybe you can collect boxes that way.

I love the Kroger brand Egg boxes. They're perfect to handle and their sturdy.

Congrats on your move!

When I need moving boxes I always go to the produce dept of the grocery store. They almost always have boxes and if they don't, then they will usually tell you when their next shipment comes in of fruits and veggies. The boxes are always sturdy because they hold heavy items. the worst boxes are toilet paper and paper towel boxes.

Maybe try a smaller grocery store? I know when I worked for a grocery store, we didn't smash boxes until the end of the day. We had tons of college students come in every year at moving home time to get boxes. Maybe if you try a smaller store, they'll work with you a little more than a larger chain store? Just a thought.

Awesome! Now that I think of it, I HAVE been at Meijer when they are unloading boxes and boxes of eggs! :thumbsup2 Hopefully next time I am there, they will be doing it again! ;)

Thanks for the tips!!! :thumbsup2

Try getting used ones from your local moving companies. I worked for one and we would either give them away if we had a lot of them or sell them very (very inexpensive) if they were in high demand.

Try the 4.5 cube, 6.0 cube, and wardrobes for clothes if you are looking for larger boxes.

Join your local freecycle. www.freecycle.net We always have tons of moving boxes on ours.
I bet I could try Craigslist, too! :thumbsup2

Last time we moved a friend suggested going to the liquor (ABC) store for boxes. They tend to be much sturdier since they hold glass bottles. If you can't use the dividers, take them out. Even better, you can pick up refreshments for your movers and yourself once everything is moved in!!
