best place for fishing vacation

We're starting to plan our vacation and ds 16 loves to fish. We usually go to florida but are thinking of maybe someplace else. I would like to find a place where we can fish but not go out in a boat. But I have no idea where to go.

DH's parents have a cabin on a lake in Minnesota and are up there every weekend once it warms up fishing. It seems to be a popular area for fishing!

Ds's birthday is Feb 3 and we wants a weekend there, so we're planning one sometime after I get back from when my dd has her baby (due Feb 3) or dh may take him while I'm gone.

If you want to pier fish in Florida, the best place is Venice. The pier goes out a 1/4 mile, and sharks are caught off it all the time; your son could chat up some really serious pier anglers there, especially if you stay until after dark, when the serious shark fisherman show up. It's a show just watching them.

I've also had great luck at Ft. DeSoto park in St. Pete, and on the main pier on Ft. Myers beach (one Spring Break I caught three decent-sized fish in less than an hour off the Ft. Myers pier.)
