Hi All we are headed to DLP for the first time in April 09. We are WDW veterans but want to ask advice as to where the best value is for a family to eat a meal together, myself, my wife, sons 13,8 and daughter 7. Also is there is a kids menu at Walt's? I appreciate it and would appreciate any advice or info. We are staying at the Davy Crocket Ranch. Thanks again and look forward to great info.

Hi, there are up to date menus and prices on dlrpmagic.com

You will find lots of reviews along with menus and prices in the Restaurant sticky at the top of the board.

Best value is at counter service, followed by buffet and lastly table service :)

I would say that in the past we've found Annette's Diner to be the best value for money, however with the appalling exchange rate and the fact that I've just read a trippie where burgers and fries for a family of 4 there came in at 75 euros it's hardly "Value".

Other than that we find the all-you-can-eat buffets very good and there is always McD's. Many of us are doing/considering one of the Half Board options. There are lots of threads going at the moment discussing the HB options.

There is a kid's menu at Walt's. :)

Sorry, I think the menus/prices are actually on magicalkingdoms.com

Thanks for the info, do you guys have a certain restaraunt you would recommend based on your experiences?

We thought Annette's was nice and reasonable value last time we went. This time we have the HB vouchers and can choose from:

La Cantina
Chuck Wagon Cafe
Crockett's Tavern
Agrabah Cafe
Plaza Gardens Restaurant
Rendez-Vous des Stars
Annette's Diner

I reckon the buffet restaurants will be the best choice for us.

I tend to prefer the buffets as I know there'll be somethingthat everyone likes and I can take advantage of a large selection of desserts ;)

I notice that you have 2 sons, my 2 aged 14 and 9 always rate the Lucky Nugget Saloon as their favourite restaurant, that one's a character buffet and we've always had a lovely time in there, your daughter will love it there too. Here's my niece with Daisy there.

Mickey, Minnie, Prince John, and Wendell were there that day too.
We're going back again next vist, DS wants his Birthday Meal there. :goodvibes

Funny, I disagree with this for our family. The counter service are the cheapest, but the worst value because they are not very healthy or filling, so we end up having 2 or 3 counter service meals in a day.

With a 3yo and a 5 yo, they never eat enough for a buffet to be of value and the food is mainly of a poor quality. I think the proliferation of buffets have ruined DLP dining options and I wish they would disappear altogether.

But table service quality is the best and most filling. We often will have a very late lunch and early dinner and can get by on one meal. To me that is the best value, with no queuing and being waited on. We think the best value restaurants are the Silver Spur, Walt's, Annette's and the Steakhouse. The absolutely best quality restaurant is the California Grill but it is expensive.

If you are on a real budget, I recommend leaving DLP for Val D Europe which has a large selection of table service restaurants much cheaper than DLP and some of a higher quality.

If you do have an urge to eat at counter service, I recommend the Fuente del Oro (tex mex in frontierland) and Cowboy Cookout BBQ - ribs, chicken and good quality burgers. Also Bella Notte has ok pizza and pasta in Fantasyland.

Whatever you do, do not eat in Discoveryland unless it is a cart, it is very poor quality.

All table service restaurants (except the California Grill) offer children and teen menus.

Now it's my turn to disagree ;)
As I mentioned above I find the buffets very good value, the large selection means there's something for everyone and I've never had a problem with the quality. The option to return for seconds, whilst it might not suit those with small appetites and little ones, is a godsend for those of us trying to keep up with teenage appetites. I personally would hate to see them disappear and I'd hardly call 3 a proliferation, off the top of my head surely the number of table service restaurants outnumbers those offering buffet style within the park plus you have the option of some of the better counter service restaurants.

I perfer buffets aswell, i like them better than table service resturants.

When you look at the hotels, they are a proliferation, both value resorts only offer buffets, the Sequoia Lodge used to have one awesome table service and one buffet - now it is two.

NBC has one.

New York turned an excellent value table service into a mediocre buffet and their table service was closed all summer.

To me, this is a huge proliferation.

And then in Frontierland one used to be able to enjoy an excellent live show in the Lucky Nugget whether dining or not. Now one pays for an overpriced meal of extremely dubious quality.

What was once a highly themed shopping area with artisans and craftsmen in Adventureland, offering protection from the rain running all the way from the Emporium to Pirates of the Caribbean is now a rarely open buffet.

There are only 3 good buffets that I have eaten at in DLP - La Grange, Plaza Gardens and Inventions - and frankly I wish those were the only ones that existed (may be one in SL, NBC and 1 in a value resort offering a food court at the other).

But please, enjoy the old bland food that everyone (many of whom do not wash their hands after going to the toilet) touches.

I prefer to be waited on. With quality food options.

I agree there should be something for everyone, but I do think that there are too many buffets in the hotels and that is wrong. Oh well, more incentives to stay off site.
