Where is the best place to buy the AG dolls? They look really nicely made, have never bought one yet.

I didn't think there were very many places TO buy new AG dolls. We bought a set for DD for Christmas from QVC. The other one we have came direct from AG. I don't personally know of any deals or discounts, other than the type of thing we did with QVC.

American Girl doesn't sell through any retailers. You buy at their B&M stores (only a few locations) or their online store. Now, if it is a retired doll you are looking for (Samantha/Nellie, Felicity/Elizabeth, Kirsten) you would need to locate one on a resale website such as eBay or Craig's List. All of ours but one has come from American Girl directly. DD had my old Samantha and I had never bought the Nellie. Santa found her a new in box one on eBay this year but she was a bit more than he would have paid for one of the current dolls at the AG store.

I see you are in Nova Scotia. Have you looked into the Maplelea dolls? They have a doll that is "from" Nova Scotia. DD also got her for Christmas as they look eerily alike LOL Their website is Maplelea.com and, if I'm not mistaken, they are like AG in that they only sell direct. She is a bit smaller than DD's AG dolls (16 inches vs 18 inches IIRC) but she is every bit as well made and her hair is just as nice. In fact, DD used her curler set on her and got the PRETTIEST curls, we never can get the AG dolls to curl that well. I just wanted to throw that out there because, you are right, the AG dolls are indeed well made but so are these and they have some of your local history in the stories that come with them. :goodvibes

Best place is pretty much the only place -- an American Girl store or from their website. Their customer service is one of the best around. Once I ordered a Samantha doll outfit that had a tiny yellow spot on it when we opened it. I called AG to find out the best way to remove the spot. They just sent me a brand new one and said to donate the other one to charity.

Another time I ordered a ballet outfit for the Marisol doll. When it arrived it was terribly wrinkled like it had been smushed up in a ball. Since it was made of delicate material, I wasn't sure if I could iron it, so I called AG and asked them. Again, they just sent me a new outfit!

DD has outgrown all of her AG dolls, but they are stored in their original boxes for her daughter (s) some day.
