Best pen/marker for autographs?

I was looking at Walmart yesterday and I'm not sure which would be best to buy. I was torn between a Sharpie marker (they have cool colours out now) which is permanent ink or those pens with the different colour inks. The pen is a wider body, which I think I read was preferred by the characters who would have trouble using a thinner pen?

What have you used and how has the ink held up?

Be careful with the permanent markers - they certainly are durable signatures, but depending on the autograph book or paper that you are using they can "bleed through" to the next page sometimes. We just purchased "fat" pens with different barrel colors for each child.

fanomickey -- thank you for the advice!!! I was planning on bringing a real thick marker with a fine tip and never thought about bleeding! I'll look for a regular thick pen instead now. Thanks!

You might want to buy a gel or flair marker type. This way, the character doesn't have to press on the book (sometimes too hard for them to do) and the signature will be darker than if you used a pen. It also won't bleed through like a sharpie.

Sharpies get all over everything, including the Character's Costumes. I immediately got rid of ours when I saw Minnie get Sharpie on her pretty white gloves.

At CRT bfast, Cindy had her own red crayon that she signed with probably to avoid that problem.

The big fat crayons might be a good idea. Your autograph book can be a rainbow of signatures.

Just wait and buy one when you get there. The pens are tha perfect size and if they don't work or stop working while you are there you can exchange them. There are a variety of characters on them and they make good souvineers. The price is reasonable $2.50 and they are available at most cash registers.

Crayola Markers (the regular big kind) work wonderfully and Ive used them for years (okay okay only 5) I then can tailor the color to whoever Im waiting for (ie princesses are usually pink) Plus if you get them during back to school they are only a buck a pack around here :) -em

When we were down there last week, every character I noticed had a pen in their hand already & was using that. They did not use the pen that was given them with the autograph book, so it may not matter what pen you have.

We always buy the pen down there (nice souvenier) and if we forget to get it out quickly, either the character or the CM with the character has an appropriately sized pen. It seems that over the years, they are more prepared for those with thin or no pens.

I'm with bobcat! Wait until you get there and buy the fat pens right at the check-out. We got the one that has Mickey ears on the top. It worked REALLY well and even I love using it now! I keep it in my purse and that's the pen I use when I leave the house. You wouldn't believe the questions and comments I get when I use it, too. It always reminds me of our great trips to WDW.
