I just noticed on the weatherreport that there is a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms on our first day at WDW (guess if that makes me sad...) and we were planning on going to MK the first day, should we do something else ? or parkhop or what ?
I was prepared for maybe a little rain but not this, thunderstorms..!!
We´re not spoiled with sunshine when living in Sweden (right now it´s almost below zero and raining ! worst possible I´d say) but please please let there be a little sunshine when go to MK !

You can still go to MK, just bring a rain poncho or buy one when you get there. Mk has plenty of shops to spend time in, and most connect so you rarely have to go outside.

Or better yet, go to Epcot your first day, there are plenty of places to get out of the rain, plus plenty to do besides shop.

Or you could take this time and do some resort hopping and see a few of the other resorts.

Or see if you can get a ps for the Afternoon Tea at the GF.

The nice thing about Florida weather is that it doesn't last long! A 50% chance of rain means that you're not likely to see more than some clouds all day. And even if it DOES rain, it's likely to only last an hour or so.

Stick with your original plan, and have a poncho ready just in case. And if you find you MUST go indoors when it rains, there are plenty of shows, attractions, shops, and restaurants to visit while you wait for the showers to go away!

If the rain DOES get bad, I would suggest going to Epcot. Ellen's energy adventure is inside and takes about 45 min. Why not use the rainy time to do this? Most of the Future World attractions are indoors.

Annika,

The conventional wisdom is that Epcot is the best "rainy day" park. Animal Kingdom is probably the worst as most of the attractions are outdoors. MGM would be a good choice too. Most of their attractions are indoors, and there's a lot less walking in between attractions compared to Epcot.

On a side note, I've taken several business trips to the Helsingbourg area. I really like Sweden a lot. While there I did pick up a couple important Swedish phrases. The best one was "Halva Pris!"

IMHO,

DS is a great rainy day park. Everything is pretty close together and most of it is indoors.

If you enjoy ToT and RNR, you will be able to ride them again and again with little or no wait.

I think I would go with MGM on a rainy day. Most of the attractions are indoors and longer in length. We actually believe that we were in the Great Movie Ride for most of a storm while we were down there. We came out and people were all donning ponchos but by that time it was just a mist that soon let up.

Oh thank you all !! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
I´m overwhelmed with all your nice advice, I´m so glad I found this forum it has surely made my tripplanning so much easier and indeed much more fun. I actually don´t feel like I am a stranger coming to another country I feel like I already know a lot of people there, makes my heart warm and my face smiling.

Geoff !!

I sure hope you have a lot of "halva pris" in Florida too that would make shopping fun, hoped you liked Sweden, Helsingborg is one of my favourite cities especially in summer.

Jordgubben !
Are you aware of that´s the swedish word for strawberry ?

Regards to you all !
I´m leaving in 5 days !!!

For rainy-day parks, I would say that Epcot is my top choice. It really has only one ride that could close (TT) due to inclement weather. There are so many shops and shows there that you can spend most of the day indoors. Unlike MGM that really does not have that many rides, Epcot is so large that the people can spread out in the park and it won't seem as busy. Plus, there are the areas that you can play for a while (like in Innovations, the wonders of life pavilion, the end of mission space, the end of a couple of other places. With the Kidcot stations in all the countries, you can easily pass a rainy day without being soaked.

Hej Annika!

If you have ponchos I think you can enjoy any of parks. As some have already mentioned, Animal Kingdom is probably the worst park for a rainy day.

If it's warm enough, wear sandals. It rained on us in Magic Kingdom a few weeks ago and we still had fun, but my shoes and socks were soaked!

I took one year of Swedish (Svensk) in college, but that was 20 years ago and now I "forstor inte mycket Svensk". Does that make sense! I do still know, "et, tvo tre, fyra, fem, sex, sju" (my spelling is probably poor!

Have a great trip!

The 50 % chance of rain may mean it will be a short shower. Try to get more details on the forecast at your hotel. If it's just a short rain shower, I would still go to MK. One good thing about MK is everything is really close together, and the rain will send the crowds home. I also like MGM in the rain because of all the shows and the great indoor rides--Tower of Terror and Rock n' Rollercoaster.

Hi manchurianbrownbear !

Your spelling is ok and that phrase makes sence. I really must say that it´s amazing that you can take a swedish class in college even though I saw your from the "swedish" part of the states since swedish is such a tiny little language spoken by our 9 millions citizens (not much !).
Thanks for all the good advice !
Annika

Annika,

My great, great, great grandfather brought his family from Sverige to the United States in 1858. So I must have relatives over there somewhere!

There may only be nine (nia?) million people in Sweden, but you don't have to be large to be great!

Epcot is a good choice, since many of the pavilions (e.g., The Land, Mission:Space, Innoventions, Living Seas) are large, covered and take time to see.

But I'd suggest a little touring in the rain can be adventageous. To quote my sister: "It culls the weak from the herd." Okay, she's a little high-strung, but you get the idea.

I love when it rains at like 5 or 6 at night. It literally clears the parks. All you have left are the die-hards who are going to stay until close, no matter what. In the summer, I totally look forward to the big storms. It clears out the parks and after an hour, it stops and you have an awesome night at the parks.

well when it rained on us one day my last trip my little brother (10) and i put our ponchos on and went to animal kindom to ride kali river rapids. my thinking was that if we were going to be wet we might as well go all out.
