I think Ant Man would be a very viable and interesting attraction in Epcot that is Marvel-based. I think any attraction in Future World needs some sort of science or technology base to fit in with the original (Roy's anyway) intention for the park. It would be kind of like the old Disneyland Inner Space ride, I think. There's a lot of interesting, yet fictional or futuristic science behind Ant Man. We could shrink smaller than the atom and go sub-atomic and even enlarge to a giant like in the last Captain America. It would probably have to be a simulator ride though, maybe something that combined a more modern visual technology from Star Tours and the simulated motion feel of Mission Space Orange. I think the physical sensation of changing size would be very dramatic.

What do you think? Would Ant Man be a viable option for Epcot that wouldn't ruin the spirit behind the park? What are your ideas for Marvel in Epcot? Feel free to ignore or not ignore the Universal contract about Marvel for this discussion. Take the poll and let us know your ideas.

Thor, Hulk, X-Men, Spider-man, Iron Man, Captain America, and I think even AntMan can't happen due to the contract.

Transformers are not Marvel so I don't know how that fits in.

The only feasible option is Guardians.

I'm not really concerned about the feasibility, just interesting ideas about what would fit with the theme of Epcot. Plus, we don't know for sure exactly what is and is not included in the contract. Also, Transformers actually started out as a Marvel property.

Well we do know that all of those except guardians are. Antman might not be but he has been with the avengers already.

I wish we had an armchair imagineering board because this would be a great thread for that. This isn't a great fit for rumors and news but then again isn't a good fit for anywhere else.

That's what I was getting at, Imagineering. This is probably as good a fit as any place, since half of what we do on here is speculate about what will happen and about what things means:)

I chose Iron Man because of Stark Industries. The cue and/or exit could have a lot of STEM related activities, showcasing some of Stark Industries "inventions" or developing technologies...hailing back to the time when Innoventions was really fun and engaging.

I'd rather not have any Marvel themed attractions at Epcot, possibly at the Studios or Tomorowland at the Magic Kingdom. Hong Kong Disneyland recently added an Iron Man attraction in their Tomorrowland. There's already a transformers attraction at Universal, I don't think Transformers is part of Marvel.

By the way, have there been any new rumors regarding the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction that was to replace Universe of Energy? Wasn't "Energy" rumored to close this month?

Guardians is said to still be coming to Epcot. When universe of energy closes is still up in the air. There are rumors of marvel announcements at D23 so we might learn more there if it's still happening.

Option x: at studios where it might fit in thematically

I completely understand, but it seems that the higher ups at Disney are bent on adding more "Disney" to Epcot. I think if they did it in Future World and did it in a way that fit with the original (after Walt died) intentions, I could be ok with it. For instance, I really prefer El Rio del Tiempo over the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros; however, harking back to Walt's trip to Latin and South America, I can reluctantly accept it. I was sort of brainstorming in that vane.

That one would be cool too. I worry they would just copy the Iron Man ride from Hong Kong though. Not that I wouldn't love to have that ride in Orlando, just not in Epcot.

I agree that Marvel does fit in better into another park, but I think the Disney execs are determined to cram it into Epcot. It would be nice if it could be gently pushed into instead of shoved with almighty force:) However, I don't know if Marvel fits any better into Tomorrowland than it does Future World, in all honesty. Most of the stuff in Tomorrowland doesn't really belong though, so I guess that cat's out of the bag there:(

Transformers is no longer a Marvel assert; however, it started out as a Marvel comic. Plus, I am not totally sticking to reality on this, more of a free brainstorming kind of thing. That's why I put that "I know this will never happen" next to the Transformers option.

As many have posted, a Stark Expo would be awesome with different companies and technologies on show like Stark Industries, Hammer Industries and Advanced Idea Mechanics.

So, here's a question: Can Disney use "Stark Industries," or is it also covered by the contract?

Putting aside the legal questions of what they can use, I would think thematically, Iron Man would be the best fit. There is plenty you can do with that, that tie in the original theme of Epcot. You could probably also do some good stuff with Ant-Man.

I'm new to the Disney game.

Can someone break down the contract stuff for me?

I know the movie/tv side of stuff but how does that relate to the parks?

Thanks

When Universal was designing and building Islands of Adventure, they acquired the exclusive rights to build attractions based on most of the Marvel characters. Attractions using Marvel characters can only be used in theme parks either west of the Mississippi or west of the Rocky Mountains. What's interesting with this agreement is that there is no expiration date for the contract. Most licensing agreements of this kind usually expire after 50 years, 100 years, etc.

When Disney acquired Marvel, their legal team tried to find a way around the contract so they could build Marvel themed attractions at WDW but there was not a loophole around this agreement.

For some reason, Disney can use Guardians of the Galaxy characters at WDW. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on this issue will have more accurate details.

I think that's about as much as any of us can surmise. I don't know if anyone outside of Disney/Universal execs/legal staff know the full details. I even think it's confusing to the two companies (You know how legal documents are). I know we are pretty safe in assuming that any Marvel attraction that Universal Orlando has, Disney cannot use the same character at WDW. I think everything else is kind of questionable. I also assume that Disney might try and push the limits. Who knows, maybe some day they will actually be able to buy out the contract.

Guardians and Dr. Strange can be use because they don't fall under the Avengers umbrella nor are they part of Spider-Man or X-Men.

I am well aware that this will never ever happen as the show is not popular enough nor would Disney see a point to adding it to EPCOT, but out of curiosity would the Agents of Shield show fall under the avengers umbrella? It is literally Shield, which is in some of the Avengers movies. So it probably would, but the contract is so vague on our end who knows.
