Best OKW Rooms with Small Children

Hi -- it's been awhile since I've been here -- good to be back! I'm planning a trip to WDW next January with my four young girls -- ages 2, 4, 6 and 8 -- staying at a 2 BR villa in OKW. We've not yet stayed here. I'm interested in your opinions on what 2BR villa unit(s) to request. My top priority would be convenience to bus transportation -- however, I'm also factoring in pools, hospitality, peace & quiet, view and so forth. Not that I'm picky -- LOL!! Thanks much for your help.

Take a look at the OKW map and decide which buildings will be closest to your preferred bus stop or pool. We like the SOuth Point area, but I have heard a lot of families like Turtle Pond. The only request I would be sure to make is for a dedicated 2 bedroom and not a lock off.

A room in bldg. 14 woild be great. Its close to the main pool.
The check-in area, the little store and Olivas.
It is also just a short walk to the bus stop.

you can request to be near the bus stop, pool or HH.

I'd second the advice about the dedicated 2BDR unit. As for location, any building within walking distance of the main pool should be good. The main pool area has the toddler pool and playground. I would think a quiet location would also be important for midday naps, so watch some of the rooms in bldgs. 14 and 62 that are along the road. They can be noisy during the day.

We stayed in Unit 1711 which was a ground floor 2 br. unit, the view was awesome, it was of the golf course with the fountain in the background and the bridge near Olivias directly behind it. It was extremely quiet and we had bunnies and ducks right outside the patio. The MIller Road bus stop was directly behind our entrance, less than a 1 minute walk. The Hospitality house was about a 4 minute walk. We've stayed in 2 other locations at OKW and this was by far our favorite. By the way, our kids were 10, 7 and 4 when we stayed at that particular location.

Because my kids are such swimmers, we always ask to be near a quiet pool. And for convenience, we always ask for ground floor. We have too much junk to lug up to #3!

#55 is my favorite. It has a beautiful view of the canal, and while it is close to the bus, it's on a cul de sac so it's quiet. It is far from HH but we don't care.

We also just stayed near Turtle Pond, in #35, and it was also great. Bunnies and ducks for the kids and the busy pool was lots of fun.

I would also recommend a ground floor for you and your children. Number 1, it will be more convenient for you, and number 2, in regards to peace and quiet, remember, if you are on floor 2 or floor 3, there are people staying below you and even normal child activity can be heard. My family is older, and likes to sleep in and there is nothing worse than hearing running footsteps above you at 7 in the morning. I think people forget that there are others around them.

You've got me interested in bldg 55. You mentioned a view of the canal, can you also see the pool? The ground floor view was fine?(not blocked by palms?) We've got a 7, 5, and 2 and swimming is important to them. We were in 19 once and it was great to watch them swim with their dad, while I was in with the baby napping. The downfall was that the pool was the only view, no other water, golf, etc.

As we have small children, we go to sleep earlier and hear all the footsteps running around after 10 p.m. from coming in after the parks close. Some of the people above us have been very excited. So yes, families of all ages sometimes forget about people around them, LOL!!

I don't think there is much of a pool view from #55. The pool is alongside it, not behind it, and there is a wall of shrubs -- bamboo, I think, between the pool and the building. You can see through this a bit and see colors of bathing suits, but you couldn't watch the kids like you'd need to. But the pool is very close. It was very convenient if my dh and I swapped off, watching the kids.

Our room in #55 was at the far end -- sorry I don't remember the number. The view was perfect -- all water. No blocked view. There was a strip of lawn that ran behind the building and then the water. All the critters stopped here to be fed and the kids were so happy. The ferry would go right by, too. #56 next door is also nice. The buildings across the street are also close to the pool but they don't face the water.

We always hear some noise from families above us, but it's not the end of the world. This trip, however, the family above us at HH had 4 kids and at 11pm each night (as I was trying to get mine to bed) there would be a STAMPEDE. Yikes. These were older kids, teenagers really -- who would have thought they'd be so noisy? I still like ground floor so dh doesn't have a heart attack with the luggage.
