We will be going in March 2011 with my extended family, a total of 17 people (8 adults, 6 kids and 3 babies under 3 years old). I really like what I've read about Windsor Hills in terms of location and amenities, but most houses seem to max out at 14 occupancy.

I'd love some suggestions on off site houses which are close to WDW. Our other options that we are considering are renting DVC points for 2-2 bedrooms or 4 rooms at POR. Any opinions are welcome! TIA :)

Man with a group that large I would for sure look for a house to rent. Not to mention renting a house I'm guessing will be a lot cheaper than renting DVC points for 2 suites or 4 rooms at POR.

As far as where is a place large enough, I'm not sure. However you could find something at Windsor Hills and just put some of the kids on the floor in sleeping bags. I took a quick look and found some in Windsor Hills that sleep 14 in 6 bedrooms, surely there is enough room to put a couple kids on the floor in sleeping bags or something.

If I were you, I would seriously consider splitting up and renting two homes. In Windsor Hills, you won't find anyone who really wants to or is equipped to rent to a group that large. As for putting kids in sleeping bags...the kids might not mind, but the owners are not going to go for that. 17 people at once for several days can be a LOT of wear and tear on a home and a pool. I would look into getting maybe two 4 bedroom homes...you should be able to do that for less than staying onsite in hotel rooms. Or depending on how your group is arranged (kids per couple, etc.), maybe a 6 bedroom home and a 3 bed townhome....there are lots of different combinations that can work for you.

If I were you, I would go with two homes...allstarvacationhomes.com may well be able to set you up with homes that are side by side. I don't think anyone rents one home that will accomodate a group of 17. The largest I've seen is 16, and that includes infant/children.

ETA: I did just check on vrbo.com for emerald island resort, and there are a couple of homes that claim to take groups as large as yours. I cannot vouch for any of those particular properties, but it might be worth checking out. Emerald Island is very convenient to Disney...we stayed at it in October 2009, and loved it's location. Here's one example:

Thanks for all the great info! Great suggestions.
I think we are leaning toward 2 townhomes in Windsor Hills. I really like the location, and it seems to still come out much less expensive than any options on WDW property.
