Best non-buffet breakfast?

I know I will get many different opinions here, but I would like to know what you think is the best resort breakfast at a TS restaurant, that is not a buffet. It's okay if they have a buffet available, as long as they also have an a la carte menu. We will be doing at least 2 character breakfasts as well, so we will already have a couple of breakfast buffets and would like to try something different. Specifically, DH and I would like a restaurant that serves some good coffee as well. So far the ones I see from the menus on All Ears that serve good coffee are Kona Cafe, Kouzzina and Garden Grove at the Swan.

Kouzzina and Garden Grove would be very convenient for us (as would Captain's Grille, if it is really good too), as we will be staying at BWV, but we will have a car and are willing to drive to breakfast if it is that good. I know that Kona Cafe is known for their tonga toast, and I have actually cooked that before, using the recipe from All Ears. By the way, DH and I both LOVED it when I made it!

We will be on the basic DDP but we are using our TS credits on dinners and will be paying OOP for breakfast. The cost is not an issue, as they all seem comparable to each other anyway. We will also have our 2 boys with us, who will be 3 and 5 when we go. They behave very well in restaurants usually. They will be happy with scrambled eggs or pancakes or waffles or french toast, and I see at least one of these on all the kids' menus. Any opinions are welcome, especially specific dishes that are particularly good and things we wouldn't normally have at home or at a typical NY diner breakfast! Mainly, we're not looking for simple bacon and eggs or plain pancakes, but more unique breakfast entrees. Thanks everyone!

I always get the Tonga Toast! Last time my DH got the Big Kahuna, and those macadamia pancakes were wonderful. I can't remember what my DD got, but my oh-so-very-picky DS got the french toast and devoured it. Of course it's also a great opportunity to get some real coffee! Enjoy!

We really enjoy Kona and the GF Cafe has a nice breakfast too. We have done Capts Grill twice and were not impressed at all.

Kona Cafe at Poly has some of the best breakfast items available.

I also like the skillets over at WCC at WL.

Garden Grove is nice as well ( usually a bit less crowded ) but I don't think they take the DDP.

Soooo easy.

Kona.

real Kona coffee
Tonga Toast
real Kona coffee
Pineapple and Macadamia nut pancakes
real Kona coffee

Order the Big Kahuna and the Tonga Toast and a press pot of Kona coffee, you will NOT be disappointed.

Did I mention they serve real Kona coffee?

We do love the buffets for breakfast, such huge variety and good food too. But we also love Kona Cafe and Whispering Canyon Cafe. We will be on the DxDP for our next trip and we plan to visit both of these in addition to several character buffets! Enjoy!
:flower3:

Ive heard nothing but good things about GF Cafe breakfast on these boards. Maybe give them a shot?:confused3 I've seen that their menu is pretty diverse too:thumbsup2

Garden Grove @ The Swan is always a must do for us... (Basically because we're always staying at The Dolphin)

The buffet is better than the Disney-owned hotels, IMO... With one *glaring* exception... They used POWDERED eggs to make the scrambled eggs... :sad2:

Don't let that discourage you, though. The other 101 items offered are top quality. If you must order a al carte, there is a full menu available, we've ordered the eggs Benedict a couple of times and have been very pleased.

The service can be a bit slow at peak times, though...

Kona and the GF Cafe were both great. I conveniently have a review of both in the review in my signature with lots of photos from September.

I didn't love the Tonga toast (I'm a French toast purist) but everything else was great.

Sounds like it will be Kona Cafe...thanks everyone! Sorry I didn't respond sooner but I've been laid-up in bed with the flu all week. Much better today and no fever! Hallelujah!!!!

Sounds like one plan a previous poster suggested is perfect...big kahuna, tonga toast (split between DH and myself), and a pot of the Kona coffee. Or if we don't feel like having eggs...tonga toast, macadamia pancakes and kona coffee!

Even though we will be on the DDP, it is not an issue for breakfast because the few TS breakfasts we will be doing will be OOP. We always have a TS dinner and we will use the DDP TS credits on those. I looked into the DxDDP and the numbers just don't add up, plus on a 10-night trip for 4 people we wouldn't even begin to know what to do with 80 snack credits! We go to CS lunches in the parks so the regular DDP is perfect for us, with the occasional breakfast OOP. Still costs us less than the deluxe plan would, so that is what works for us.

We still may try the Kouzzina breakfast in addition. It's so easy for us to go there, staying at BWV. But Kona is a MUST!!

Anyone know the breakfast hours for Kona? Wonder if we can fit it in on a non-EMH MK morning and still arrive before rope-drop, or if we should make an ADR for a non-park day and have a later breakfast instead.

Konas for Tonga Toast and the good coffee in the press pot. Yumm. I am hungry just thinking about it. I am hoping that we get a good enough tax refund this year to do breakfast there and dinner at tuskers for my birthday this year. If our refund is low I only get dinner. If it is high I get both. SIGH!

Olivia's at OKW is one of our favorite TS, non-buffet breakfasts.

Hi

Fresh at Swan or Dolphin was fantastic last time I was there.

I do like Kona also and also enjoy Trail's End.
