Best Night for Palo?

I'm (still) considering a Palo night for our cruise....keep going back and forth! What would you recommend as the best night for it, on the 7-day Eastern Caribbean itinerary? We have two sea days followed by two port days, a sea day, then CC. TIA!

I don't like the last night because it can force you to make sure you get your suitcases out in time.

Some people like it on Pirate night (tortola night for you) because they don't like the Pirate menu.
Others prefer to avoid the dining room chaos on the first night and choose to dine there then.
Others still would rather go on formal/semi formal nights so they don't feel like they need to dress up more than required.

Personally, we do Palo on Pirate Night if we are traveling alone, if we are with the grandkids then we go another night, the kids love pirate night.
If you don't want to miss any menus in the MDR on a first cruise, I would do as the PP said and do a brunch instead.

Have fun.

We go to Palo on Pirate Night. (We don't care for that menu.) Then we change clothes, and go out for the fireworks.

Our server at Palo (Lorenzo on the Fantasy) a couple weeks ago told us that if you dine on Palo on the last night, you can call to have your suitcase pickup extended by an hour. We were able to eat, get back to the room and change out of our dress clothes and get them packed up well before they picked up our suitcases. It was also very relaxing as the first and last nights are the least crowded in Palo (not that it ever feels crowded).

You will have to have one restraunt three times. Book onboard, once you get your dining rotation. That's what I would do unless if I got Royal Court three times. I love it. Your choice. But it's a great way to start off a cruise. so all in all one of the first nights.

We've found the last night to be very relaxing, as you noted, and it's also a top choice for us because we're not fond of the See Ya Real Soon menu.

We never do first night because we want to meet our tablemates and servers on that first night. We don`t do last night because we usually want to see our tablemates and servers at the end (even if we do usually see them at disembarkation breakfast) and because we eat later and don`t want to have to pack early and then pack dress clothes into our carry ons. Other than that, the best night is the one that best fits your schedule IMO. Sometimes we pick a day at sea so that we don`t have to rush back from an excursion to get changed, however, since we usually eat later it isn`t normally much of an issue especially on caribbean cruises where they leave port reasonably early so it usually is just a random selection near the middle of the cruise for no other reason than symmetry of days before and after.

on our Eastern we did it on one of the sea days because my kids like pirate night.... this time with a B2B we're doing it on the second leg during pirate night because we don't like pirate night menu

Such a personal decision in many ways. Here's our theory/preferences (assuming a 7-day or longer cruise):
  • Don't do first night so you can meet your dining team and get to know them (and your table mates if you won't have your own table) - 1st night connections help the remainder of the cruise
  • Don't do last night as you want to say goodbye to your dining team (unless you do the sit down breakfast on debarkation day)
  • Don't do non-themed nights as you miss the normal dining rotation menu and (if AP) show

We therefore pick Pirate Night as we're not into dressing up as pirates and we know we're missing a standard meal across dining rooms, not a tailored menu. 2nd to that would be formal night, but our daughter really enjoys getting all dressed up and we love the family photo we get out of it, so haven't done that.

We schedule our reservation such that we don't miss the Pirate festivities.

I (personally) wouldn't recommend missing the first set of MDR rotation as that is when the menu and shows showcase those dining rooms. During the second rotatoin is a good night to go or, like a PP said, many go on Pirate Night as they don't like that menu. Plus you can still be done to see the pirate show and fireworks later.

+1 for Pirate night and brunch!

I personally have grown to like brunch better because there are so many wonderful options and it is during the day so the views out the window of the ocean are awesome. But the dinner is more romantic ;)
