What is the best (or your favorite) moderate resort?

ETA: I forgot to add one thing....I am also interested in finding out which moderate resort has the largest rooms. I've heard POR rooms are tiny.

We have stayed at the Coronado and the POR, we liked them both but I would say that the Coronado was our favorite out of the 2.

This thread is going to get BIG! :)

We have stayed at all the moderates.

I think it really depends on your family, and what you like for theming.
I have heard people say if they live in say Arizona - Coronado Springs *might* not appeal because there is lots of similar southwest theming back home - and it doesnt feel like a vacation. Others feel right at home....Similarly I have heard people with Mobility issues say how much they like POFQ for example, due to its easily accessible layout & intimate feel. I have heard others say it feels too smallish.

Anyways - just keep that type of idea in mind when you hear feedback on this topic.

But that is what is so great about Disney - Something to appeal for everyone!

So I guess my point is - there is no one BEST for everyone.

FOR MY FAMILY - we have no mobility issues, and live in the Northeast...we really like all the moderates...and have no one favorite really... I actually think CBR might be close to our favorite...

We like the tropical feel, and the new zero entry pool and the serene paths...and its a fraction of the price from the Poly.

There is actually a thread here http://www.mousesavers.com/wdwresortfacts.html#moderate
That might help you with your decision

I have stayed at CBR and POFQ (2). We like POFQ because of convenience and ambiance. It is small so that when you get off the bus you don't have to drag yourself so far.

Mikkiwikki nailed it. There is no best. Everyone has their favourite based on their family's preferred esthetic and needs. Review the individual resort threads and the photos therein and see which one appeals most to you. There really is no right or wrong. We have stayed at them all (the mods). We pick a different resort each time based on time of year and where we stayed last- we like to mix things up and don't like to stay at the same place twice in a row! We're fickle like that ;).

As for room sizes- any difference is minimal.

POFQ 3rd story corner room. This was the best place I have ever stayed. Can't wait to go back in December.

We have only stayed in CBR ( as far as moderate) and we really enjoy it. We love the Caribbean feel, music, landscaping, beaches, pool area, gift shop!.
We love how you feel like your in the Caribbean @ WDW! We have stayed here four times before and one of them was in the pirate themed rooms which were really neat. The resort is large, some people dont like that, we do b/c makes it feel like there arent that many guest. The main pool area is pirate themed with cannons, two water slides, hot tubs and a kiddie pirate ship area with water slides and dumping buckets. Each Island has its own private pool and laundry room service. The rooms are clean and have always been kept clean during our stays. :thumbsup2

CSR is the best if you like a Deluxe resort feel, CBR is the best if you want a tropical feel, and POR/POFQ is the best if you are a member of the POR army. :rotfl2:

It's true that the POFQ and POR rooms are a tad smaller, but the resort grounds are great and it feels more like YOUR resort. I have always found CSR and CBR to be too big and a really long haul home from the bus after a long day in the park. They all have their merits and you can't go wrong with any of the choices.

Do your homework. You'll find the right place.

I like Coronado best but the main reason is because they have normal air conditioners in the room NOT those cruddy ones like motel units under the
window. I can NEVER get those adjusted where they are not too cold or blowing on someone in the bed.

POFQ Bldg #3 3rd floor, corner room! Best!

I have stayed at all but CSr. POFQ is my favorite based on the small size, ambiance, boat to DTD and the beignets ::yes::

I thought CBR had slightly larger rooms than CSR, POR and POFQ, but I can't find that information now, so I may be mis-remembering. At any rate, the difference is very small, just a few square feet. However, CBR doesn't have elevators in their buildings, which could be an inconvenience with a stroller or wheelchair/ECV.

We personally enjoy CSR because the theming is so different from where we live. We can see similar surroundings to CBR, POR and POFQ in our area, so those themes don't hold much appeal for us. CSR makes us feel like we're getting 2 vacations: WDW *and* the Southwest. We also love the rooms, have had excellent bus service there and excellent service overall. While we don't use the spa or fitness center, we do love the pool at CSR - our kids love the slide (OK, so do my husband and I!). I love how spacious the resort feels, and like I'm not right on top of my neighbors.

I do agree with the others, though. Every resort isn't a 100% fit for everyone. Resorts that don't appeal to me may appeal to you. Start with the FAQ threads here on the Resorts Board and see which pictures excite you and make you say, "I can't wait to stay THERE!"

POFQ!!

Honestly I could not tell a difference in size between the CBR rooms and POFQ. The smaller POFQ grounds appeal to us a little more and the added pool hopping with POR and the boat to DTD.

CBR does have an awesome pool if you have kiddo's that love the pool almost as much as the parks.;)

This is us too. We have stayed at and enjoyed all the moderates. In fact, we have stayed at all the levels of WDW resorts and the moderates are our favorite category. I can't really pick a favorite. I stay at one and and come home very pumped up and in love with it, then I might pick another one for our next stay or go back to the same one. We swore we would never stay anywhere but POR but then only CBR was available for our dates over spring break and we fell in love with it all over again (having stayed there around five years ago) and are booked there again in October. I don't think we'll change to another mod, but I guess stranger things have happened.

CBR rooms are the largest but I consider the mod rooms to be nice sized. Enough bigger over the values to give some extra space (I notice this in the bathroom area in particular) but smaller than the deluxe rooms. They work very well for our family of four and we do take an airbed for our son and it fits fine.

To me where the mods really shine is their theming and grounds. All four of them do a top notch job of portraying the theme they are modeled after and the grounds, pools, room decor, building exteriors, heck even the music they play on the busses all make you feel you are right in the middle of that theme.

For the record, CBR rooms are 340 square feet which is the same size as WL and AKL rooms. The other mods are all 314 square feet. So very close in size.

If you haven't already, check out the videos of all four mods here: http://allears.net/acc/resortvids.htm

We have only stayed at CBR and POR. I prefer the theme of CBR. The food court at POR is pretty good.
Everyone's tastes are different. Go with the theme that attracts your family. Don't worry about room size. I don't think it would make that much difference.
I would just sit down with your family and ask them which one looks the best. Decision made. Good luck!

Nobody can tell you which is the better moderate resort because everyone has different tastes and/or likes. However, here's my personal list/opinion (with main points only).

1. Port Orleans Riverside - Atmosphere is amazing and magical, boat ride to Downtown Disney is a resort bonus and very relaxing

2. Coronado - Excellent theming, buses run great.

3. Port Orleans French Quarter - Small but comfortable, boat ride to Downtown Disney is a resort bonus and very relaxing.

4. Caribbean Beach Resort - No Disney magic, buses are horrible.

**They say CBR has the biggest rooms, but I really didn't notice the difference.**

We love CSR, the rooms are very nice with duvet comforters, and the same tolietries as deluxe. The digsite pool is really nice and the bus service is excellent.
