Which is the best moderate hotel outside the park and why?

We've stayed at Fairfield Inn and thought it was okay. I have heard so many wonderful things about HOJO but worry about a potential pool renovation. I thought Best Western Park Place might be good because of the close proximity. I am so confused. Please help by giving your best suggestion. We are a family of five by the way.

Have stayed at Candy Cane Inn, Carousel Inn and Best Western Park Place Inn. The Candy Cane is usually more expensive. I can recommend all three for cleanliness, safety, continental breakfast, etc. I usually stay at the BWPPI because it's the closest (right across the street). The only issue with BWPPI is their parking lot. The spaces are very tiny. If I wanted to go and the BWPPI was booked, I'd choose Carousel next (right next door to the BWPPI), then Candy Cane Inn.

The HoJo is only rennovating one pool at a time (they have two). So even if they are rennovating the pool in the front of the property, the one toward the back will be open and will have just been rennovated! The only thing you will be lacking is a jacuzzi. No other property close to DL has two pool areas, so I say it is still one of the best "moderates" out there. :goodvibes

Danger, the Anabella has two pools. One is just for adults, but there are two pools. :)

And I didn't use either one. What is wrong with me? :confused3 :upsidedow

I completely forgot about the Anabella's pools. Thanks, Molly. However, I probably didn't think about it because it seems like too far of a walk for me. Do you remember how long it took you to walk from there?

We are a family of 5 and stay at the BWPPI whenever we go. It is close, clean, and their continental breakfast works out fine for us. There is also a small refrigerator and microwave in each room. We get one of their “mini-suites”, which has 2 queen beds and a queen pull-out sofa. The place is just right for us.

The pool there is small, but it is kept up well. My kids are beyond the lets play in the pool stage, but when they were smaller we still managed to spend some fun time in the pool during our visits. I can’t compare it to other nearby hotels as we have not stayed in them, but it definitely works out well for us.

Yes the pool is heated, but it is hard to say if it is as warm as you might want. We are from near Seattle, so what is a warm pool to us might not real warm to others.

We usually stay at the Tropicana right across the street (it's actually next to BWPPI, on the other side is the Carousel). Nice hot tub and pool, microwave and fridge. Free breakfast (even though it's nothing special), and the rooms are always nice and clean. But that close of a location is usually what keeps us coming back!

We were planning on staying at Hojo's this time. But since it looks like there won't be a hot tub or kiddie pool area during our stay, we're looking in to switching back over to the Tropicana.

July of 2007 stayed Candy Cane Inn, bottom floor, front side last room in the little hall way. I think there are 2 or 3 rooms in this area. I was traveling with my sister who took the bed nearest the door. Middle of night she wakes me with a death sounding scream. There were worm like bugs in her bed. I called front desk to have them change sheets. (I thought maybe the pests had fallen off shrubs onto the maid carts). After what seems like an eternity sister had new sheets and we both fell asleep.

I suggested that staff spray our room for pests. I let them know we were going to be at park all day.

I hoped they would see the need and spray room but.......middle of night sister agains wakes up with bugs in her bed. There were worms all over the floor near the door, window and air conditioner, and again in her bed, We were moved to another room at 2 am in the morning. No one apologized, offered a discount, or offered any words at all. I was the one that suggested this room needed to be treated and that we would need to be moved.

The private bus service is nice. The continental breakfast is convenient. But having bugs in room and nothing being done about it is unacceptable. I will not stay there again.

I have stayed at Candy Cane Inn several times before this and would have recommened them before this happened and saw the way they handle this type of situation.

I have stayed only at the howard johnson and the park vue years ago. I personally didnt have any problems. I have read a lot of reviews about motels and hotels near disneyland that have pest problems or parking issues or the staff that was rude. I personally have to say that I have been to the disneyland hotel and the Grand a number of times and feel that they are overpriced and really nothing special especially if you are at the park all day and night. We now stay at the knotts berry farm resort which so far has been very clean, nice pool, and staff that remembers that you are a past guest before they check you in. It also has a free shuttle to disneyland. We have had rooms for 59.00 depending on when you go. Its great for us since we usually bring our car so we drive to disneyland and use our tickets that have free AAA parking. A good hotel to look into.

Deluxe for a moderate price.

We went to Disneyland 2/8-2/12 and booked the Park Shearton through vacations to go. We got a price equal to the hotels on Harbor Blvd. Fairfield wanted the same amout. We have stayed at the Fairfield before but after a backpack with our DD pixter disappeared after our room was cleaned, we won't stay there again.

The Sheraton is awesome!! And the room is big. We had 2 comfortable queen beds and room for a crib which we requested for our DD who is 6 months old. There was a chair with an ottoman big enough for a child to sleep in if you pulled them together, and a desk and chair and still more than enough room to wander around.

The pool is heated:thumbsup2 and they run their own private shuttle which leaves every 1/2 hour for the park.:thumbsup2 Which is a 3 minute ride. We also walked easily in the morning past the parking structure right into Downtown Disney for coffee and beignets!

And parking was not a problem. Onsite secured by room key access.

Would gladly stay there again.

Have a great trip!!
