We have stayed at the Beach Club in the past and my husband loves it(well we all do :) ) We would like to go back for our youngest bday, she turns 2 in Oct. Not really sure we can swing the whole Beach Club thing. My husband said he would do a moderate. What would you say the best moderate is or would you say there was no comparison to a deluxe? TIA

Hard to compare.. based on what you desire.

I would say POR/PORFQ 2 resorts that share pools,food,etc........nice for adults with bar and lounge, decent food, nice walks, even a carraige ride drawn by horse.Boatride to DTD or just take a ride...

DD might enjoy the new ROYAL rooms.......

If we do a mod its always POR....

CSR(very nice pool) is a very nice alternative if the disney feel is not as important.

AKL might be a good deluxe choice with the little one if animals stir her interest. cheaper than BC !!!!!!

Mods/Deluxe, it's like comparing apples to oranges, different categories, both good.

Our fav mod. is POR. We always request a GV room in the Mansion section, close to Old Man Island bridge. Great location. Close to everything.

Love the beautiful landscaping, boat to DTD, good food court, evening entertainment, nice main pool and option of quiet pools.

Next Jan. I'm going to try FQ!

We love POFQ. It small and quaint. With a small child, the pool area, lack of walking, etc is great. The boat to DTD is an added plus. I agree with previous poster that POR royal rooms might be a good fit for you as well. They are in the buildings closest to the lobby/pool as well.

We are going to be staying at the Beach Club this year, but only b/c we rented DVC points which put it in the same price range as a moderate. You can't get free dining though if that's in your plan.

Hard to compare as each resort has pros and cons that pretty much make them all a wash in the end. I certainly would not snub a Moderate as for the money they are a good balance of theming and decor without the deluxe pricetag. But if your kids must have stormalong bay than no moderate can replace BC.

The two options I would suggest have been mentioned already: consider renting points for BC to keep the cost down or take a look at POR as it has a great pool and very well done theming. Good luck and keep us updated.

Well each mod is different and unique, so it just depends on what your looking for, If you are looking for a luxury mod, try CS, it is beautiful. PoR is also nice, have you thought about looking into AKL or WL, they cost a bit less then BC.

It's hard to compare a mod to a deluxe as they're so different since they're different categories. With that said, the only mod we've stayed at is CBR and we loved it. The grounds were beautiful, the food court had a lot of variety, and the pool was fun. As a pp mentioned, WL and AKL are great deluxe resorts, but are quite a bit cheaper than BC. If either one appeals to you, they might be worth looking into as the rates are cheaper than the BC and all of the other deluxes.

The only deluxe I've stayed in is the Dolphin, which was awesome but I still had just as much fun at the moderates.

I think the moderate that gets the highest reviews overall seems to be Port Orleans French Quarter.

We were in the same boat as you...we stayed at BC last year and thought it was completely wonderful but this year we just didn't want to spend quite that much on our Disney trip so we decided to go with POR. We were there 3 years ago and even though it's not BC, it really is a beautiful resort. The landscaping is beautiful, the rooms have been newly refurbished (we actually just booked the royal room for my 5 year old dd), the pool is nice (not SAB, but still a great pool that my kids will enjoy), and we enjoy the the boat to DTD. The music in the lounge at night is fun for everyone. The food court is great. I know there will be things about BC I'll miss, mainly SAB and the quick walk to Epcot. But...BC would have added $1500 to our trip and neither dh or I really wanted to do that this year, especially when I know we'll have an awesome stay at POR too!

What are the Royal rooms? I will look into POR. AKL does look but is it kind of on its own? Meaning away from the other parks? We have never been to Animal Kingdom.

I am sure you will love the BC. And yes, free dinning is our plan.

Stormalong Bay is really neat but since we were there in Dec, my kids at the time ages 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 didn't get to really experience it. Not sure they really know what it all has no offer so I am pretty sure I a safe there. We really just like the walking into Epcot part.

We have talked about the WL. Think I will do a price check between the mods and WL.

Not sure the ages of your other children but I will tell you the resort my twin two year olds loved and it was CBR. Of all the moderates, I feel it has the best pool area for the under 10 crowd. The main pool is zero entry and has 2 slides. There is also a separate area for the children 48" and under that is gated and has several small slides and water features. My boys loved this area. We also stayed in a pirate room and it was themed fantastically. Highly recommend it. The biggest negatives is the cbr only has full beds and is spread out (all moderates except FQ are). We had a 7-10 minute walk to the amenities and we were in the furthest section out.

We all recently stayed in CSR. To me, it is the closest to deluxe. The rooms are beautiful (but not very Disney) and I thought the food options were fantastic. We won't return there anytime soon. Not because we didn't like it but because it wasn't the most child friendly (IMO). We would return for an adults only trip or when our boys are older. The pool gets a lot of love here but we didn't get it. It's a big pool (not zero entry) with a pretty pyramid. I have read the jaguar slide is good for older kids. The little kids play area was pitiful and I was unimpressed.

We haven't stayed at POR (we have visited) and it seemed nice as well. They have the royal rooms which might be something you're interested in. Perhaps if you upgraded to a pirate room at cbr or a royal room at POR it might ease the transition to a moderate. Or consider the swan or dolphin. In the Epcot area and while not Disney owned, they are very lovely and have the heavenly beds. They also offer many discounts for teachers, nurses, and I believe a lot of other professions. Happy planning!

I didn't see answers to your quesitons

What are the Royal rooms?
They are themed rooms that are decorated with disney princesses in mind. Specifically Princess Tiana "created" rooms with items given to her by some of the other princesses (jasmine, belle, cinderella, ariel and snow white). See here for more info: http://www.portorleans.org./royal-rooms.php This site also has great information about POR. Definately check it out.

POR seems to be popular. What is the GV room?
Garden view room, this is a step above standard view

Thanks so much for the info and the link. The rooms look so neat. I am sure my kids would love the fiber optics!!
