Best Mod with a 4 year old?

DH, DD4 and I will be making a quick-ish long weekend WDW trip in March. I'm wanting to stay in a mod this time. DH and I stayed at Dixie Landings several years ago but not since it became POR. Which of the mods would be best with a 4 year old? We don't need a sit down place for breakfast or dinner.

DD likes to go to the pool and the playground, but we won't be spending a ton of time at the resort, probably just in the afternoons before going back to the parks. We'll have a car and prefer to drive to the parks, so the bus schedules are not a concern for us.

Thanks!

POFQ!! :jester:

It is a smaller resort which requires less walking and time to get to the dining, pool, buses, boat to DTD and parking lot. It has a great pool for kids and the theme is beautiful as well. The boat to DTD is a plus. POFQ and POR are sister resorts so you can always go over to POR to enjoy what they have to offer.

CSR is always my answer when someone asks about a moderate. We love it there, the pool and slide are great, the grounds are beautiful, and the staff is always great to us!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I vote for CBR. We loved it there when my oldest was little. Great pools, wonderful theming, great mousekeeping, nice food court and good playgrounds, too. My DS still says how great it is and he has been spoiled by Poly.

CSR!! Best pool, great playground and you won't need your car. Centrally located to all the parks. The transportation is not shared.

Thanks for the thoughts :)

But I'm wondering what makes any one of these better than another for a 4 year old? I had been thinking CSR, and then thought about POFQ. I thought better of CSR because we are going for such a short time that trip and won't necessarily need or enjoy all the amenities. Whereas a smaller resort like POFQ we might be able to feel we could "do" in a long weekend. Does that make sense.

And we truly do not use the buses. Been to Disney many times and we just prefer to drive. Except to DTD, it might be nice to avoid the parking zoo there.

PORS was our favorite when it was DL. We have stayed at them all before kids, only PORS since having kids. (we went DVC since having kids.)

However we got a great deal at PORS last may and loved it, (DD was 4 years old, her sister was 9 months.) We stayed in AB building 14 and it was great. The pool is good, the playground is the best playground at any WDW resort hands down. (it is really big, not just one jungle gym and swing set.) DD really liked the place and so did we. I don't think PORS being bigger bothered us at all. If you get a good building like 14 you are doing well. (we requested it that and 1st floor a week ahead of time by phone.)

All mods are good, I personally think PORS is great. (I still miss it being DL though.) :goodvibes

Another vote for POFQ, the biggest reason, SIZE!!! Your youngster and the resort. when I stayed at POR my five year old informed me the walk was way too far, POFQ, on the other hand was GREAT....according to her. Other mods are just too big for her little legs. BUT, of course the choice is yours and in Disney....you can't go wrong

Ah thanks! I had forgotten about the walking distances. When we stayed at Pop this summer, she complained about the long walk to the food court.

What building at POFQ is non-smoking, close to the food court and near the pool?

Building 5 is the best bet for what you are describing. This is a perfect resort for a 4 year old --- been there done that. The pool is wonderful and the theme great for that age. The walks are relatively short. The food court very manageable and not overwhelming. The grounds fun to be at. The playground is good size for that age, also.

If you've already stayed at dixie landings, wouldn't you want to try a new theme (CSR or CBR). I have only stayed at PORiverside and POFQ of the moderates, but I think the pictures of CSR's pool look fantastic and for my young son (now six but has been plenty of times at aged 4 to WDW) the pool was the priority :3dglasses :earseek: :love2:

Don't all the moderates have playgrounds? I remember they were there for both POR and POFQ. My son liked the campires and s'mores at POR, but didn't like all the walking. It was easier to get around POFQ (and all the buildings are convenient, actually--it's so small).

I'd still like to experience a new theme for a quick trip. I think if we went for a moderate again I'd probably try CSR. :wave2:

We are staying at POR next week. Does anyone happen to have a picture of the playground? I have a 9 and 5 year old that would love it. Thanks for you help. Only 3 more days until Disney!!!

I see alot of requests for CSR but I personally have never stayed there. POR has a playground in the sand. It is a wooden playground with ropes and some bars etc. POFQ's playground is one of those metal plastics sets that you would see on a school playgound or daycare. Beautiful with the rubber matting. POR has a baby pool that is a foot deep not sure about POFQ.

We never have time to do these things except on the way back to the room when we walk past them. I used to be able to take alternate roots when they were younger but now they seem to know their way!!!

Another vote for POFQ. The pool is perfect for a 4 year old who is brave enough to go down the pool slide.

ETA: You can also take the boat to DTD instead of driving.

I have to shrink it so give me a little bit and I will. If anyone else has one go head and post it. I promise to get it posted before you leave. :teeth:

It is a number of wooden playgrounds pieced together, it is very big. I like the pool for young kids too. It is no SAB, but for a mod it great. (actually all the pools at WDW are great. I can't say about vaulues, never stayed at one, but they look good from pictures.)

I have to agree...my son LOVED the POR pool. It had streams of water pouring down (Ole Man Island) and if he ventured into that playground, he was pretty much gone for the day :goodvibes

My vote, even though my favorite mod is PORS, would be POFQ. Can't beat that dragon slide for kids in the mods and the smaller size makes it a good choice. In order, my choices would be POFQ, PORS, CBR and then CSR. CSR is the "adult mod" in my opinion. And that is JUST MY OPINION. ;)

I got back last evening from a wonderful trip (grown up girls relaxing trip). We toured all the mods as my friend and her husband are bringing a family from Slovenia to Walt Disney World (their treat!) for 10 days in early February. This is a once in a lifetime trip for the family who have a young 5 and an 8 year old. We did lots of research and discussion and here's what we think.

CSR and CBR are wonderful but it takes a while to get to food and the main pool from a great deal of the resort. PO-R has some of the same problems. The sandy beaches do get points though. We vote wholeheartedly for PO-FQ. The pool is perfect for a 4-5 year old. The boat to PO-R and Downtown Disney is such fun for little ones (and big ones too!) The beignets get a big vote too. We saw three little kids running around each with powdered sugar liberally dusted and happy as little pigs.

But I think the real answer is: THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER. They're all great and they're all Disney! What's not to like?
