I've been on most rides during the fireworks, but planning to be on the right portion of any ride during the fireworks is another matter entirely.
IF we have several MK nights, then yes, we've chanced it many times. We see the fireworks one night, and take advantage of shorter liens on other nights.
If you've only got ONE MK night, I truly can't advise trying to see them from a ride. A much better option is just to see them from - more or less- where ever you happen to be when they go off. There are a number of spots around the parks where you can stand and see most of the fireworks.
Further, it was easy to see Wishes from almost any angle, and still get the gist. I have to advise though that the new show relies much more on projections that are projected onto the front side of the castle. I don't know why Disney thought it was a good idea to do it the way they did. If you can't see the front of the castle, you now miss much (more) of the new show.
The show only lasts a few minutes. We are the kind of folks who do not stake out parade or fireworks spots long before the show starts, so I get that. That said, WDW = waiting in lines all day. Standing still for 15mintues isn't much of your day.
If I still haven't convinced you, then my favorite is option is probably the flying carpets or Astro Orbiter. Other options are BTMRR and Splash, but you'll only get a fleeting view on any of them. I've never tried from Dumbo's new location, but that might also be an option. With most of these rides though - even if you manage optimal timing- you are also guaranteed to ALSO miss MOST of the fireworks. Most of Splash, for example, is indoors.
