I started with Epcot and HS planning and now am moving on to MK. I find it harder selecting attractions for my DD who is 5 since a lot of rides are too scary for her. She's not very daring.
My DS is 9, so am also looking for rides/attractions that are good for both of them (but we'll split up at times too if too old for her or too young for him).

I know that Dumbo, It's s Small World, The Carrousel are good ones.

What about Barnstormer, Peter Pan's Flight? Any others?

Touringplans website has free plans for all ages. It is a great resource for figuring out what attractions to visit for all ages. I am a very satisfied customer of theirs.

Not really. Any ride without a height restriction is fine for anyone of any age. And, at MK there are lots of rides without a height restriction.

Ditto touring plans.

My DD is 5, but she's a daredevil so I'm not much help. Her favourite rides were splash mountain and big thunder mountain

My almost 4 year old loved the little mermaid ride and both kids loved enchanted tales with belle. They also both loved Jungle Cruise. Mickey's Philharmagic is awesome if she does 3D. Barnstormer depends on the kid - my DD has loved it since she was 3....the 4 year old, not so much as its kind of fast for his taste.

Peter Pan's flight is good - it is dark though if that is a concern. Winnie the Pooh is cute, but it is a bit jerky of a ride and is not a very long ride considering the usual wait times.

I'm guessing you'll split up, especially if your 9 year old is more adventurous, as the 9 year old will want to do the "bigger" rides.

You won't have a problem with Peter Pan's flight. For some reason, our 4 year old decided to not go on the Barnstormer, but was completely fine with Haunted Mansion. The teacups is also a good ride to get their feet wet.....you can control the amount of "spin" to your liking (which isn't much for me :thumbsup2).

My DD is 6, but her favorites were Splash, 7DMT, Philharmagic and Peoplemover.
The coasters surprised me because normally she's a chicken. Lol

Definitely Peter Pan, also:

Buzz Lightyear
Under the Sea
Winnie the Pooh
Haunted Mansion
Aladdin's Magic Carpet ride
TTA
Maybe Pirates of the Caribbean (if she's not scared of the dark)

If you think she'll be comfortable with Dumbo, then Aladdin's Flying Carpets and Astro Orbiter are essentially the same ride. She'll likely be fine with both of those as well.

My daughter loved the Tomorrowland speedway at 4 & 5, but her driving (hard left, hard right, hard left...) didn't make it the most enjoyable experience for her passenger or the car behind her.

Barnstormer is jerkier than Big Mountain Thunder Railroad. My ds5 will not go on it, but loves BMTR. 7DMT should be good too. The Pooh ride is adorable. Peter Pan is dark, but next to Mommy or Daddy should be fine. Astro Orbiter is faster than dumbo and up higher so windier. Flying carpets is the same as dumbo. The train is always good, as well as the monorail and boat transportation to get to and from Magic Kingdom. Buzz Lightyear should be ok.

SDMT should befine, as will Barnstormer and Peter Pan.
Could you clarify too scary. We took our Granddaughter 5 last year and she was fine with Roller Coasters but nothing dark, loud or scary (ie ghost). Another words words is it BTMR that would scare her or is it Haunted Mansion? or all the above?

I'm surprised nobody mentioned ETWB yet. My DD's favorite and a must do at least 3 times every MK day.

My 2 yo loved Winnie the Pooh. We were bored but she was happy (3 times).

Under the Sea is also very tame. My DD was a little afraid of Ursula at the time (in the movie) but it didn't bother her on the ride. It has a very upbeat and happy vibe.

She was also fine in the Tiki room. I thought the storm might scare her but it didn't. It helped that she could sit on my lap.

In fact, any ride where she can sit right with you is probably a safer bet.

The only things I would consider skipping could be Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain (although my dd5 loved it), Big Thunder Mountain, Barnstormer, 7 Dwarfs Mine Train, Pirate of the Caribbean.

Everything else would be a definite do and most of that list would be as well for my dd5 but check out those rides and you should know how your dd would do.

Good luck and have fun!

ETA and Stitch I would avoid Stitch but I think everyone should avoid Stitch

Rather than listing the attractions that I think are good for a timid 5-year-old, I decided it may be easier (and faster) to list the ones that may be too intense.

Astro Orbiter (heights)
Space Mountain (dark, intense)
Stitch's Great Escape (dark, loud)
Pirates of the Caribbean*
Big Thunder (intense)
Splash Mountain (almost entirely okay, save for one tall drop)
Haunted Mansion (dark, spooky)

*I think most of the ride would be okay, but there are dark portions and scenes of skeletons that could spook some kids. It's mostly harmless, but be prepared to let your child bury her head in your lap.

Everything else I consider tame enough for even the most timid of kids to enjoy.

As for scary, she often finds kiddy rides scary (but did recently go on a "roller coaster" that went in a circle with bumps and loved it. She loves the ferris wheel so is ok with heights but I guess if its too fast or just looks scary or that have big or sudden drops or movements. And yeah, the dark may frighten her.

What is ETWB???

Ok...so Barnstomer is scary? My DS would probably like 7 Dwarfs Mine Train, but I agree too much for DD. Big Thunder Mountain is too much too?

Would definitely avoid Haunted Mansion with her but am hoping my DS will go on it. It's the only ride I remember when I came to Disney with my folks back when I was 6...and loved it.

ETWB= Enchanted Tales with Belle an interactive story show where some audience members act out the scenes with Belle and other characters from Beauty and the Beast. I have never been but would not advise to skip it.

Barnstormer is not scary at all but it is a fast paced roller coaster for kids. Big Thunder Mountain is not scary either but is a longer roller coaster great for kids normally. My dd would do both of them at 5 given the chance but without knowing yours or her level of fear/timidness that is what my general list of avoiding would be. If she enjoys coasters w/o inversions and on the tamer side of traditional coasters go for it.

My DD was 3 1/2 last summer and loved Barnstormer. On the other hand she was terrified of Winnie the Pooh! :rotfl2: She didn't like the rainstorm scene she said;) She will be 4 1/2 this trip and we plan on doing everything we can fit in except space mountain (too short and is completely in the dark) and the haunted mansion because she's a chicken about the dark:rotfl:

Pirates of the Caribbean, yes their is a drop but it's maybe 10 feet? And in the dark.

Oh yes, ETWB is definitely on our list (that would be one without DS)....as well as Under the Sea Little Mermaid.

Will have to see about Barnstormer and Big Thunder Mountain.

I don't think Pirates of the Caribbean would interest her as much. She's a real girly girl.

The Barnstomer lists 35" so height-wise she is ok.

Can someone tell me more about Peter Pan? Disney site has no height restriction and lists preschoolers. I know this is a FP one if we go on it.
