I'm trying to figure out the best method to shrink a pajama set I bought for my one year old to wear on Christmas day (it matches the PJ's my 3 year old will wear). It is size 18 months & too big on her. They are 100% polyester.

Are they able to be shrunk? It it as simple as washing in hot water & drying on high heat? Or is there a different method?

Thanks!

You could try washing them on hot and drying them a few times - if that doesn't do it, nothing will. I don't even look at the fabric blend on most of my clothes but I do know that some synthetics DO seem to shrink, stretch and/or lose their shape over time.

Some of my work uniforms are polyester. Over time, they have been shrinking without my trying. I'll give you all a guess as to my method:tongue:

Polyester doesn't really shrink. However, it will melt. If you try to use hot water it will more than likely affect whatever dyes are in the fabric or make the material stiffer.

Won't survive the heat. The melting point is about 250 deg F. Even near the boiling point of water I've gotten stuff like PETE bottles to warp.

Actually you can get polyester fabric to shrink, but it would shrink by turning into a solid blob. It certainly won't shrink like cotton or wool.
