While I am miles ahead b/c of this site I am also considering picking up a guide book, which one do you like?

No contest. The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. The 2005 edition just came out.

I like the "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" by Bob Sehlinger. I just got my 2005 book and its got over 700 pages of great info and I am only on page 200!!! It also has some info on Universal and Sea World.

I always go with my "Passporter Walt Disney World Resort : The Unique Travel Guide, Planner, Organizer, Journal, and Keepsake"

It has loads of information, maps, checklists, pages to keep track of your daily activities and pockets to store memorabilia. I have two of these from 2000 and 2002 and I love going through all my old tickets, menus and other cool things I stuffed in the pockets, like streamers from previous parades and deflated balloons!

Love this book - of course I get it every year. I also enjoy the associated website for updates. They have added new online planning tools to it which to me just has enhanced the experience. Len Testa the webmaster is on these boards also. He's fantastic as well - very helpful. www.touringplans.com

I also have enjoyed the Passporter for a different reason. The design is also different. I have used it at a companion to the Unofficial Guide in the past.

I really like both the Unofficial Guide and the Passporter. I think the UG wins hands down from a standpoint of information. It can't be beat. But the Passporter is better at letting you plan and organize. The pockets alone make it worthwhile. I purchased the Passporter earlier this year and just recently bought the 2005 UG and I can see myself buying both of these each year going forward. They really make a nice set :)

The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World gets my vote. Checked the rest and this one is the best.:mickeybar

I really enjoy reading the guidebooks. We get the Unofficial Guide and Passporter--love them both.

I like Unoffical Guide. My Dad loved WDW and growing up in Florida we went a lot (lost count at 45 times in high school and I turn 40 soon). This book taught me LOTS!:teacher:

I am a huge Passporter fan for the planning section in the back. I also love how the book is laid out. I used to like the Unofficial Guide but we now go regularly as DVC members and don't want the touring plans any more so I prefer Passporter or actually the Birnbaum's official guide.

Another vote for the Passporter.

I kept the last one I have and put all my maps and park guides in the folders in the back and kept a record of where I ate. :)

In February I purchased Brinbaums Guide 2004, Brinbaums Guide for Adults 2004, Unofficial Guide 2004, and Passporter 2004 my vote goes to The Unofficial Guide! Here is my opinion on each:

Brinbaums Official Guide Has nice pictures in it and good desriptions, but they obviously do not review items objectivley I like the getting ready to go section of the book a lot.

Brinbaum's Official Guide for Adults Skips a lot of information about restaurants, etc and I would not reccomend it.

Unofficial Guide I have loaned this guide out twice since having it in Feb (plus now I own the 2005 guide) it has helped me plan my trip...they have objective reviews of the hotels, Restaurants, good ride tips, maps of hotels, etc overall a great book I would reccomend to everyone.

Passporter I was really disappointed with passporter after hearing about how great it was! I thought the colored maps of the parks were great as were the hotel descriptions, but I didn't care for the touring section or the planning section. I thought it needed some improvements and I think I will just make my own version of the passporter with a small three ring binder.

Oh well just my 2 cents..I hope this helps.

Unofficial Guide!

But I always buy the Passporter as a planner. The guidebook section of it I could take or leave.

Another vote for Passporter. We used to get Birnbaums, but I picked up a Passporter in 2001 and have bought one each year since.

I love the deluxe version because then you only have to get the insert each year and you can add or remove as you want. The cover has pockets that will hold credit cards, park tickets etc, so I keep our AP's in there year round. I know where I can find them all the time.

I too, kept all my old Passporters with my maps, menus etc in them. I guess eventually I will get them in a scrap book or something, but until then I know exactly where everything is.

I do have a copy of the Mini Unofficial Guide, which is good.

Another vote for Unofficial Guide. Never used the Passporter, I will check it out, but the info in the UOG can not be beat.

I also like the Unofficial Guide. I do buy the Passporter though to keep all the trip information in one place. Also for my our first trip last year I got the Disney World for Kids by Kids for my ds (4 at the time). It along with the vacation planning video were great for giving him an intro to the rides. He was able to ride just about every ride there (that he wasn't too short for) and enjoy the theming rather than becoming afraid.

I llike Passporter for info, and I'll admit I like Birnbaums for building anticipation -- those coloured pictures help the excitement levels rise when we're getting close.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.
