We're flying into HH this summer, so we're going to p/u groceries once we arrive. Although I don't cook when we go to WDW, I like to cook at the beach. Does anyone have a grocery store they like to use on/off island? Would you just swing by Walmart?

TIA!

We usually go to Publix. Prices are good, good selection and my kids LOVE LOVE LOVE the white mtn. bread. They look forward to going to Fla and Publix for the white mtn. bread. We do not have a Publix in NY.

There is also a Piggly Wiggly-we love the name!
They may be a little more in price-I think. It is closer to the HHI resort-we actully walked there and rode bikes to pick up a few items. For a large order to stock up for the week, I would go to Publix. There is also a WalMart. All 3 are on the island and not far from the resort.

We hated the Publix--it was grossly overpriced, quality was poor, and selection was mediocre. The Piggly Wiggly was OK, but it too was not low in prices (though we thought it was a little better than Publix and better stuff).

We were there 2 years ago and we used Walmart the most and I think we found a Winn- Dixe. I know there are Publix there also, all good choices.

I think the "best" grocery store is The Fresh Market. But that's because we have one at home and I know the quality is very high. So are the prices!!! For meats and prduce it is always my first choice. For other stuff, we like the Piggly Wiggly, just because we love to say it and both girls have PW T-shirts that say "I'm big on the pig."

I love Publix. If you have kids the chicken tenders available at the deli counter are a yummy and quick meal. Most of their seafood is very good as well. If you do a lot of gourment cooking Fresh Market might be a better choice. Don't forget there are tons of great restuarants at HH, at all price points. You might reconsider cooking!

PS. The Walmart there is not a Super Walmart with all the grocery selections. You'd have to drive way off island, nearly to the I-95 to find one. Not worth it IMO.

Thanks for the heads up! Our last trip was a few years ago, and we drove, so I didn't remember whether it was a Super/ regular Walmart.

We have Publix here, and it's not usually my first choice for groceries because the prices tend to run a little high and the selection isn't always the best. Looks like we might make a stop at both the Fresh Market and Publix.

We're going to be there for a little over a week, and although we'll eat out for a few meals (planning on making a trip to Savannah to the Lady and Sons), 24 meals and snacks out would be pushing it, lol.

We have gone with the Piggly Wiggly in the past and have had no issues...

I also remember seeing a Kroger near the area...

We, too, always go to the Piggly-Wiggly, partly because it's so close by. Also, if there are specials that require the card, the cashiers always ask us and if we don't have a card, the cashier has one to plug in so that we get the sale price.

We shop at the Piggly Wiggly when at HH. It does have a deli area that has some okay stuff in it. and it is not far from the resort.

There is another supermarket called Bi-Lo down there. Didn't know it existed until I tried to run out at 10:30 PM to find Publix and Piggly closed at 10 (it is open until 11:00PM). It's a little harder to find, but is a good full-sized supermarket. Not as "upscale" as Fresh Market (or even Publix), but is on-par with Piggy (but a little bigger). It isn't too far away, located on the left while travelling east/north from the resort, before the Wal-mart. There is another one near Sea-Pines circle too.

No Kroger that I know of. There are two publix, one Wal Mart (NOT A SUPER WM), a Sam's, Bi-Lo, Harris Teeter, two Piggly Wiggly, one Fresh Market and one Winn Dixie, might have left out something, you never know. There was a Food Lion but I don't think it's there anymore.

The Publix will be the best value and the best mix of quality, prices and selection, esp the one at Sea Pines Circle. The prices are a little more than our local publix but not that much and certainly not as much as many other vacation areas. Fresh Market will be the most upscale but certainly more pricey. Harris Teeter will be better than Publix in some areas and worse in others from my experience. Frankly all are fine and I'd hit your favorite if it's there or the one that's most convenient which may be the PW near DVC or the Publix at Sea Pines Circle if you head that direction.

They seemed to excel in their meat department from my impression on the couple of times I've been in there.

We'll have to try the Publix at Sea Pines Circle. We tried the one in Bluffton on the way back from Savannah and were not impressed. Maybe the one at Sea Pines is better.

That one is far newer and nicer than the one across from Sam's Club as you come onto the island. I meant to add that there is a super WM near Sun City after you get off I 95. Those that prefer WM, can plan ahea and have the room might consider stopping and loading up on the appropriate items there. I find that people's tastes in grocery stores vary as much as their DVC resort preferences and frequently have less objective reasoning.
