Okay, so now that the wrapping paper is all tossed and the presents put away (well, at other people's houses anyways) what was the best gift you received that you were totally surprised about and/or would never have thought of yourself?

DH and I received a University of Michigan themed garden gnome from DH's aunt's family. Sounds like an awful gift, right? Well, we think it's hilarious. We're planning a road trip out west in the spring and we are now going to be dragging the gnome (who I have named 'Bo') along with us. I've always wanted to be one of those people who bring something silly along with them on vacation and then photograph it "vacationing". Bo may even have his own trip blog. We're very pleased and would never have thought to ask for something so silly for ourselves.

DH and DDs surprised me with a Chamelia bracelet. They picked out a couple beads to signify things, and then put a dangling Tinkerbell right in the center!! :tink: I love love love this bracelet!! My family is sooo wonderful.:lovestruc

We got a Browns garden gnome! :teeth:

But the gift that fits here is my DH's grandfathers.

He gave us his baby bowl. (you can see from my signature that I'm pregnant--its our first & the first greatgrandchild) It's a ugly hand made ceramic bowl with cats on it and some chips in it, but its wonderful. Definitely the best gift we got.

a gift card to sephora :woohoo: I need more make up and my mom knows we can't just go out and buy it all at once (bare minerals) I love this make up :goodvibes

I would LOVE to have a Browns garden gnome. Next time I am in Cleveland I need to look for one.

My surprise gift was a copy of the book "Generation Kill". I really liked the series on HBO, and got the book to send to my son-in-law in Iraq. I had been meaning to pick one up for myself, but...

My best surprise was from my MIL. She made a Shutterfly photo book of our DD's first year. So sweet! It made me cry. :flower3:

Our 2 DS' gave DH & I a Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player and along with that Mamma Mia, the mini-series John Adams and The Dark Knight!!! I had asked them for John Adams but never expected the Blu-Ray or Mamma Mia or the TDK. John Adams is not in blu-ray.

my mom gave me a check which was unexpected. My father passed away two months ago and my stepmother told me everything of my father's was left to her. My mother had an old life insurance policy on my father from many years ago. She collected on it and passed the money on to my brother and I.

My boyfriend made and framed for me a photo collage of pictures of my pet rat.

This sounds "odd" but let me explain.

My beloved pet lab rat passed away the week before Xmas.

He died peacefully in his sleep, but very very suddenly. It came as a major shock.

I was so attached to that fuzzy little face. :( Every day, I'd come home from a stressful day of work and take him out of his cage and he'd cuddle up on my shoulder while I finished up work on the computer or read a book. He was the sweetest little critter ever. My boyfriend was with me the day I adopted him from the local humane society. In fact, I drove home that day and my BF (who'd never seen a domestic rat before) held my little fuzzball on his shoulder the whole ride home. BF grew very attached to him as well.

I cried when he died. A lot. I also got very sick of hearing idiots say things like "what is your problem...it's a gross rat??" (yes, people said that to me when I told them) Who says that to someone who has just lost a pet they loved? :confused3

BF has always been very in tune to my emotions and is rather sentimental himself. When we got together for our Xmas the following day, he told me he wanted me to open this one gift last. So I opened the other things (all wonderful, personal stuff that he knew I'd love) and then got to the last one.

He had printed off a bunch of digital pics I had on my web site of my rat, and put them in a collage frame. It absolutely melted my heart to see it. It made me cry, but in a good way also, because I realized I have the best BF in the world. I don't think most men would think to do something sentimental like that.

And it was my favorite gift of all.

My children gave my DH and me a GPS. It was a total surprise.

$125 gift card to my favorite nail salon! Totally unexpected gift from my dad!

A Chi Hairdryer.. it makes my hair feel like silk!!

 DH surprised me with an emerald and diamond ring. I have wanted one for a long time, even promised myself that when I lost 100 lbs I would get one, (but then I hated to spend the money when I hit that goal) so this was a terrific surprise. He always gets me great things for gifts, but not usually jewelry, and this ring is so beautiful. What a wonderful guy I married!!!

My DBF had my favourite picture of us blown up and had some other stuff done to it (effects & things), put the words "forever" on the bottom and had it a framed :lovestruc

This is going to sound so silly but my mom bought me an Iced tea maker. I had no clue she'd do that. I love it when she makes tea in hers and she remembered and actually that maker for me over the summer.

As horrible as it is to say my mom's gifts normally aren't something I would like this year she did very well. The Iced Tea Maker, PedEgg and a pair of very comfy pjs.

Not a Christmas gift, but Anniversary (Dec 8), DH got me a gift certificate to a local nail salon for a pedicure (been begging for one for over a year) and while we were at WDW, he bought me a beautiful pearl ring and set of earrings (my birthstone).

He didn't get me anything for Christmas :confused3

CharityLynn, your post made me sad, my mom usually bought me a pair of pj's or a nightgown for Christmas, but she passed away in Aug, so I didn't get my pj's or nightgown this year.
