This past April, I added a half of a tank of gas to my van(I still had half of a tank when I arrived at Disney)at the Hess station on my way out of Disney our last day. The next morning, as I drove my kids to school, my "check engine" light came on, and I immediately went to the dealership. The technician hooked the van to a machine that read a "code" for the problem, and it turns out it was just bad gas causing a problem with the emmisssions. While the technician did not say that Hess gas in particular was of inferior quality, he did suggest I start purchasing the premium grade. I am not sure that was the problem at all, but it was the only gas I put in my van that was different from my other trips. This past week, we purchased the premium grade at the Hess station at DD, and my check engine light has not come on.
