Just got back. Since Hess took over the gas stations at WDW they now have the best gas prices we found anywhere. Beat the next lowest prices we found by 4 cents a gal.

FINALLY

We filled up Sunday afternoon at the HESS at Downtown Disney for $1.95 a gallon. The Chevron on Hwy 535 at I-4 was only a half mile away and was $2.19 a gallon!!!

For once something is CHEAPER on Disney property!

MCMom

that compares well with the cheapest we saw during the weekend at race trac gas bars which were 1.93+ and 1.94+ down on 192

on the way back to the airport we saw 1.93+ on orange blossom trail at many of the gas bars ( probably due to the presence of a sam's club gas outlet )

one texaco station on the way to mc coy road using jetport drive had gas at 1.89+ on monday morning

thus if you look around you can find better prices and it is nice to see that the "gouging" does not continue now HESS has been introduced near disney

I've always thought the gas prices at DD were reasonable compared to the gas stations located immediately off-property. We started filling up at DD a few years ago on our way out of Disney. This past April, I added a half of a tank of gas to my van(I still had half of a tank when I arrived at Disney)at the Hess station on my way out of Disney our last day. The next morning, as I drove my kids to school, my "check engine" light came on, and I immediately went to the dealership. The technician hooked the van to a machine that read a "code" for the problem, and it turns out it was just bad gas causing a problem with the emmisssions. While the technician did not say that Hess gas in particular was of inferior quality, he did suggest I start purchasing the premium grade. I am not sure that was the problem at all, but it was the only gas I put in my van that was different from my other trips. This past week, we purchased the premium grade at the Hess station at DD, and my check engine light has not come on.

Premium Gas means it has a higher octane rating. It does not refer to its purity. In fact higher octane gas, burns hotter and can actually damage your engine if it is not recommended by your car's manufacturer. Most times high performance cars require this gas.

I have used the HESS stations at DTD twice every month this year and had no problems with my minivan. The problem could have been created perhaps if any condensation formed in your tank?

sometimes the "check engine" light will come on if you do not give the gas cap a couple of extra twists after you fill the car...

this happened to us with a rental in arizona and it was a brand new car

finally, i just disconnected the battery to make the check engine light to go off and did not have any problems after that

so give the gas cap a couple of extra twists after you fill up it will make a "new years eve noisemaker sound" when you do that

not saying that was the problem with "mic" and his van but it brought back memories of that "light" staying on in arizona

We noticed that the prices were lower too on our trip in May. We pulled into one of the stations at WDW because we made a wrong turn and were kinda lost. I would have never even considered filling up there, just assumed the prices were higher, what a surprise! We sometimes use Hess at home and never have a problem.

3 years ago on our first recent trip we pulled in to a staion at the lest exit off of I-4 before WDW figuring I save a buck or two. I knew there were stations in WDW I just figure they were more expensive. Imagine my suprise when the gas was almost 15 cents a gallon cheaper is WDW.

Cheap gas can cause car problems. We do not have Hess around here so not sure what the quality is like. I do have a friend that was a Chevy technician (glorified mechanic) who told us to never get Kocolene (sp?) gas in Fort Wayne since it causes so many problems. He suggested using Shell, BP, or Marathon and only using the low grade most of the time and about once a month getting the mid-grade.

I have used "cheap" gas often and have never had a problem. I look for the Octane rating and if it is what the car mfg. recommends that is what I use. Using a grade of gasoline not recommended for your engine can cause a lot of problems.
