Not sure if this is the right forum for this particular question so sorry if it is not & please move if need be. :)

I broke my ankle pretty bad several months ago & had to have surgery on it. I now have screws & a plate on both sides of it. It's to the point now where I can walk on it all day while working on my feet for 8 hours but is Very swollen & throbbing by the end of my shift & throughout the night. Of course, I will be discussing this with my doctor as well to get his advice.

I'm wondering if anyone could share any experience with sneakers and/or good socks to wear for a full day of park touring after something like this? I will be taking plenty of rests off my feet as needed throughout the day.

New Balance. Very supportive. Sales reps usually ask if you had surgery and they have certain types for extra support.

Please note that each ankle need is different. I needed support for standing not walking. I am not allowed to run so there's that. Standing hurts the most and some supportive sneakers actualy cushion for running and don't work as well. Check with your doctor.

It depends on the width of your foot, really.

These days, I can wear new balance some but am actually a bit more stable if I wear trail runners like salomons because they have good tread and they are meant to be rugged, supportive, and light weight. I actually can't wear the usual really sturdy walking shoes (like dansko) because the weight of the shoe aggravates my previous injury. I like salomons in particular because their lace up system makes them really easy to loosen and tighten.

But my best advice is to take a few different shoes. I do the sneakers, my Birkenstocks (the hard sole is best) and a pair of really light flip flops. I switch between the sandals and the sneakers and I wear the flip flops in the evening or on days my feet won't tolerate any pressure at all. Good luck!!

Also forgot to mention- I could not wear them in Florida heat, but smart wool socks come with different levels of padding. If I'm wearing boots or I have blisters already, the heavier padding really helps preventing further damage.

It's weird and this is only something I would do at Disney or on a plane, but this time on the last day I couldn't put on my shoes but I had to wear socks on one foot- bought the split socks in Epcot's Japanese pavilion and they were great with flip flops for the trip home! I mean, if you have no shame and just need that little bit of extra protection with flip flops.:teeth:
