Best FAA Approved Car Seat??

I agree that a carseat probably wouldn't make a whole lot of difference in the event of a crash. I was thinking more along the lines of keeping him restrained through turbulence. Also, he'd be more likely to sit still in his carseat during the flight. If he was on someone's lap he'd want to get down and run around.

Another thought, make sure you have everything restrained in your car. We were told at the "CarSeat Clinic" that even a can of soda can kill or injure youi in a car accident. The ammount of speed these items pick up is un real. Make sure strollers, diaper bags etc are under the seats or somehow restrained (in the cargo netting ) etc. They really stressed this. He also stressed the importance of parents using their seat belt. He said he had heard of cases where the parent who was unrestrained had injured other passengers by being thrown in an accident!!! I don't know if this is the truth or a scare tactic, I always use my seat belt but it was terrible to hear!I am terrible, I could live out of my van there is so much stuff in it.....books, otys, umbrellas etc. I am trying to keep it neat after hearing the Police Officer. just wanted to pass this on .....

We had a Britax Roundabout for my DD when she needed a carseat for our wagon and a combination carseat/booser for my convertible since I had bucket seats. Once she turned 4, I bought regular boosers for both cars and I am happy not dealing with the harness anymore. I know a lot of people swear by the Marathon and I know that children are safer in a 5-point harness, but it's just not for me. I wouldn't invest in the Marathon unless you plan on keeping him in a carseat (not a booster) until he's well past kindergarten. My lightweight kindergartener is only 45 pounds.

We have a Roundabout as well (2 of them, actually) and love that it can be properly installed without a locking clip. This is important to us because we move the seats fairly often (visit to friends or relatives) & it's a pain to move a locking clip. I can install the Roundabout solid as a rock in just a few minutes.

Our Graco Cargo is nice as well but it needs a locking clip to be installed correctly.

Our police dept will inspect carseats at any time, with an appointment. They are great!

About stuff flying around the car, that's one of the reasons I am hesitant to get a minivan or SUV. It seems so difficult to secure everything! With my sedan I can just throw stuff in the trunk and not worry about it.

I subscribe to a program that sends me an e-mail weekly to remind me to check for UFO's in the car and to make sure the carseat is secure. I don't keep stuff inside my car, but have found items that were left by other passengers. I once read of a baby being clipped in the cheek by a flying water bottle during a minor traffic accident. So I don't eat or drink in my car, either.
