Where has the best Euro exchange rate at the moment?
I heard it was Marks & Spencers....
Whats the best rate that you have seen around at the moment?

:thumbsup2

travelex is 1.244 when i got mine yesterday

marks n spencers was about 1.23

The Post Office is usually quite a competitive rate, today's is 1 GBP = 1.2463 EUR

I've just checked a comparison site and Thomas Cook, closely followed by M&S are showing as the cheapest, unless you have them delivered.

The downside of ordering on-line and having them delivered, apart from ensuring someone is home to receive them, is that your bank may charge fees on debit cards for such a transaction - something to look out for!

I have to organise some myself this week, usually I order from my bank, but I think this time I might shop round the travel agents or see if I can get to M&S, with cash in my hand (to avoid those debit card charges).

I've previously found that the post office online is a good compromise of what is described above.

You get the rate of an online ordering service, but can set the delivery to be "collect from branch", avoiding the problems of waiting in to ensure a safe delivery. I didn't get charged anything by my bank either...

The only possible downside is that you can't make an order of less than £350, depending on how many euros you actually want.

Surely even if you choose 'collect at branch' you will still have to pay when you order? I do if I order with my own bank, payment is taken out of my account instantly!

It probably depends who you bank with as to what the charges might be if you order on-line, but since we only intend getting a couple of hundred Euros, then I think a travel agents or M&S would be the best option for us.

Sorry - guess i didn't explain that very well. What I meant was - my bank didn't charge me any extra on top of the cost of the money.

Mine don't if I get the Euros from them, but what I meant was if I used their debit card to buy Euros anywhere else, then they would charge a fee!

I don't know what would happen if I ordered from the Post Office and collected from one of their branches, using a debit card on collection.

I've just looked at the Post Office site and it seems you have to pay when you order, as I suspected, so I would be charged extra! There is actually a warning on the site that this may happen too.

I've always found M&S to be the cheapest (even in the old days when I worked in a bank and got staff rates for currency they were still cheaper) if you've got an M&S card they don't charge any fee whether it's online or in-branch. If you haven't got an M&S card take cash otherwise they'll treat it as a cash advance. Travelex usually has a better rate provided you book in advance (the rate is appalling if you don't pre-book) but when I priced it up by by the time I'd been charged by my bank for ordering on-line, then the fuel to get to the nearest airport to collect (not the airport I fly to DLRP from) plus parking it worked out dearer than M&S.
