Best DVC Resort For Non-Parents

I would love some input on this subject: what would you consider the best DVC resort for a couple with zero plans to have children?

We are partial to Food and Wine and SW:GE, however, the Epcot resorts seem a little less attractive with their deed length - which makes me think the Poly or BLT.

Obviously, it’s Disney, so you’re never going to avoid children completely (nor do we completely dislike children - we both love our nieces and nephews very much! ), but Disney is very special to us as a couple and we tend to gravitate toward the adult aspects of the resort: food, relaxation, adult IPs, etc.

Any and all inputs would be helpful. Thanks!

Honestly, I would say SSR.

Right by Disney Springs, so you have nightlife and entertainment just a quick walk or boat ride away.

My vote is for Boardwalk, but I’m biased because I’m an owner without kids . I know it has a shorter contract, but 23 years of amazing vacations still sounds good to me! I just love being able to walk to Epcot and HS, and having the Boardwalk right there.

If you want a MK resort, I’d pick Poly over BLT. I like the atmosphere better and you can also walk to GF and all the restaurant there.

Since F&W is high on the desired list, but not the EPCOT resorts, I would go with the poly as long as you never expect to have anything but a studio. (No 1 or 2 BR at poly) The monorail to EPCOT is very close to the DVC buildings and you have great access to MK.

Another vote for BWV even though you are concerned with the end date. I love the BW area as an adult (alone) and also with kids. But there bars, Jelly rolls, Flying Fish cafe...

I would also agree with BWV despite the earlier expiration. You really can’t beat walking to Epcot and HS, and there are so many dining options nearby with World Showcase and all the resorts. Plus walking access to mini golf and a spa. We bought earlier this year and would have done so without kids too since we just love that area.

Another vote for SSR. I personally do not get all the excitement about F&W. Long lines to be able to overpay for a couple of bites of food? Disney Springs is a permanent F&W festival, with dozens of excellent options and often a greater value than any in park or in resort restaurant.

My vote as "empty nesters" now who still do vacations with older sons, now 31 and almost 23, as well as vacations with DS and me, my vote would be for either BCV or BWV. I say that because of the proximity to Epcot, certainly during F&W, awesome. Between BWV and BCV, we enjoy BCV a bit more, even as empty nesters. Just LOVE Stormalong Bay pool as well as we enjoy the quiet pool at BCV. We enjoy Poly very much also, DS and me have stayed at Poly several times during F&W, imo, just a little more inconvenient. Love the Poly though, love relaxing at both of the pools there. When we stay there, we request Tokeleau Building, to be close walk to Transportation Center. Staying at BLT for the first time this coming October, can't wait, that would also be a great option. Best of luck on your decision!

We are in the same boat as the OP, and this was our thought process as well, so we're hunting for a Poly contract.

If the issue is to decrease the kids exposure, I don't think there is one but none of the resorts are a problem in that area inherently IMO. Otherwise it just depends on cost, villa type, where you want to be and what you want to do. I'd say AKV for relaxing and the animals, BCV or BWV for EPCOT/DHS with the dining options on the boardwalk and at the parks or SSR for DS esp if you'll have a car and to save some money or MK resorts (BLT best value by far) for MK/monorail resorts. There are no bad options IMO IF DVC makes sense in general.

I wouldn't pick Poly or BCV if you don't have kids. I do have kids, but when they aren't with me, I prefer more adult time without kids all around. I think that BWV would be a good choice for you considering what you are looking for. I also worried a great deal about the earlier expiration on BWV/BCV but decided to buy there. Another 20+ years is a LONG time. Who even knows if we will own it for that long. I'll be in my 50's by then with no kids at home when it expires. It might be actually perfect for us at that stage of our lives.

We are empty nesters who love many of the same things as you. We like BWV. Recently we tried Poly for two nights and found it to be super kid oriented/friendly and there were little kids and strollers and noise all over. Not for us. We stayed at BLT on our first no kids trip for F&W a couple years ago. That too can be super kid oriented with being able to walk (with strollers) to MK or stroll strollers right on the monorail. We added on a bunch of points at BWV. We also own OKW and HHI. End date being sooner than the others is a downside but DH and I will be 69 then and likely won't care to go anymore (our own parents have now lost interest when they hit around 70). If we do still want to go, we can add on a new resort then (or let our kids take us, lol).

If you definitely want a longer end date....I'd suggest going with VGF or even CCV over Poly or BLT. Those are more quaint mature feel. If we add on again, it will be one of the Wilderness Lodge resorts. So quiet and relaxing. And would love to stay there during Xmas decoration time.

I’ll cast my vote for VGF. The hubs and I are childless, and we find that the more gentle pace of The Grand suits us perfectly. Plus they have some pretty amazing dining options there (yummm Narcoossee’s).

If we were to add on, it most likely would be BWV, the earlier end date doesn’t matter to us, we will be well into retirement by then, and our trips will likely be less. We haven’t tried AKV yet... that place sounds quite relaxing as well.

I’ve been there with my kid and I’ve gone as a solo, and I see no difference. This isn’t a reason I would use to choose where to buy. You can go anywhere on property and you’re going to trip over children. Even on your way to V&A.

That said, I love VGF. But there are a ton of kids there.

VGF doesn't have a quiet pool, right? That might be a downside. I love VGF and the villas are definitely more subdued, but the pools and grounds are definitely full of kids. Unless there's a quiet pool I'm missing.

I would say that most have plenty to offer to the adult only trip --
SSR -you are close to DS
Poly you have trader sams and a quick monorail to epcot
AK - you have 3 amazing restaurants and victoria falls and animal viewing
BW/BC area there are a few bars/clubs and easy access to Epcot
GF - just in nature is more adult orientated with a few different restaurant choices

I think the thing with DVC resorts is that they are not in your face disney themed they are all tastefully done so I don't think you can go wrong nothing is screaming kids. You are not going to avoid kids, they are everywhere. You will find even if you buy at a particular resort you will want to try different resorts. This is the only way you will really get a feel of what you love or dislike in each resort.

I don't have any other comparisons, but we stayed at SSR in Feb and barely saw another human being unless we were near the main pool / lobby. We left Disney Springs one night around midnight and took the walking path on the "wrong side" (we were staying in Congress Park) and it took us FOREVER - I'm pretty sure we did something wrong - and we never ran into a single person. I recall at least twice being at the bus stop with no kids whatsoever present. The one time we took the boat, everyone on there was over 50 (at least).

I'd go for GFV, too. Those one bedroom villas are luxurious. I wouldn't go for the Polynesian unless you plan on a boatload of points to get the bungalow instead of a studio. Studios just don't say wonderful couple stay. I need a king sized bed and those studios only have queen sized beds. Copper Creek might be nice for the lakeside cabins with their own hot tub and fireplace.

Yeah if you like the EPCOT area best but don't like the contract length, this would take care of those concerns. Eliminates the ability to buy resale and there are several unknowns but if you aren't in a hurry you could find out the details in less than a year.
