What is the best DVC advice that you have ever gotten about DVC wether it is points, packing or anything else.

Buy where you want to stay.
Wouldn't have thought of it with the DVC sales presentation, but read these boards and realized the importance.

Buy resale. While that was great advice in 1997, it's not as great now.

Buy where you want to stay, and buy as many points as you can do comfortabully (sp)

Don't wait until you think about it more. Most people regret not buying when they first looked at DVC.

Don't buy the minimum number of points! We wanted to get by with just 150 points at first, but were advised to do at least 230. I am so glad we did that! A year later, we added on another 150, so I guess I really took that advice to heart!:p

Take a deep breath and don't obsess over your room location! It will still be at Disney.

Buy now before the price goes up!! :earseek:

Too bad I didn't heed that advice when it was given, I could have saved some money....

1. Buy where you want to say.

2. Keep in mind, over 40 years family structure changes. You may be able to stay in a studio now in the off season so you buy the minimum # of points, but as the family changes, so does time of year you can vacation or number of rooms you need. Err on the side of the higher number of points if you can. You can always bank points or take little side trips on extra points.

Try to get a use year just prior to when you normally travel just in case something happens and you have to cancel.

We didn't listen in 92,93,94,95,96,97,98:(. Price goes up as the years go down.

That is great advice! And I'll add a corallary: "Don't sweat the small stuff. You've got 40 more years of vacation ahead of you."

"Buy now and you will get free admission to the theme parks until the year 2000.." Those free passes for 8 years of trips basically paid for our initial investment.....

While I think "buy where you want to stay the most" is the most universally accepted advice, I had already bought into that concept before reading it here.

So I'd have to say the most useful advice/tip I've heard here is the "day by day" ressie for those tough times of the year. No way I would have figured that one out for myself!! :)

I say this all the time, I've done the math here lots of times. Even shooting low on the costs of five day hoppers, it works out to pre-paying eight years of passes, and not only getting DVC for free, but even gettin the first couple years worth of dues for free.

I just feel so smart.....

I think this was the best advice we received, that's why we added on this past October!!!

We're still fairly new at this so it may sound odd to the vets:)

These boards and DVC MS both told us to get ressies we wanted during typical busy times is day by day.

Also I couldnt hear this enuff now, dont wait to buy cause price will go up, well we waited but it was very very very good advice I just wish we would have taken it.
