Hi all,

DBF and I are trying to sort out the logistics of a trip in early Jan. of 2011 (ie. see if we have enough money to not put ourselves in the poor house!). In doing so, I am trying to figure out the most cost-effective way for us to book the trip.. He is Canadian military, and I have emailed Disney to see if there are any military discounts that apply to him, but haven't heard back yet. I tried to research it myself, but I have seen "yes they do", "no they don't", and "yes they do, but..." so I am really not sure what to think!

We would be there for free dining dates (you have to book a 4-night package, correct?). I know you can't combine offers, so if we got free dining - that would be it. We would be staying likely at one of the AS resorts, but I would want to upgrade to the DDP as opposed to the QSDP. Is there a point to doing this, considering that if we do book the trip, there will only be likely a couple of weeks to secure ADRs? Is it doubtful we would get any of the better TS restaurants, and just be better off going with the QSDP on this trip, and save the TS restaurants for our next trip? What is the price to upgrade from the QSDP, anyway?

Another option - if we just stayed 3 nights and paid OOP for mostly QS meals and maybe one TS on our last night, would there be a significant price difference from this scenario to the one mentioned above?

Any other suggestions as to how to get a good deal?

I am sorry for all the questions, and I realize this is likely pretty convoluted, but I'm desperately trying to cover all the bases so we can make this trip a reality! It would be DBF's first trip - I went twice with my family as a kid, so I realize how lucky I was, but I have been lurking the Dis for months now and I am realizing just how much I missed the first time(s) around, and I'm just about coming out of my skin for an opportunity to get back there.

Thanks!

You should note that you don't have to have a resort booked to make your ADRs. I suggest making them now. Then you can see availability and decide if upgrading to DDP makes sense. And you'll at least have backup ADRs. I think the price to upgrade is around $10 per person per night.
