We are in need of a dishwasher. We have a whirlpool now. Any great deals out there and what is the best brand to buy. Consumer reports seem to like Bosch. Thoughts?

We got a Bosch at Sears last December based on CR recommendations and we are quite happy with it. It's very quiet, which was important to us, since we have an open plan kitchen/dining/family room. However, it's quite small inside I think. Or smaller than our previous Whirlpool. But it's very flexible as to changing things around inside to fit various things. It was expensive, about $900 installed. We got no interest for 2 years, so we're just paying it off over a year or so.

i have a Whirlpool Quiet Partner III - got it 2 1/2 years ago from Best Buy - can' t remember the price but not over 700! We are happy with it!

We bought the least expensive Bosch available a couple of years ago. I think it was under $500 at Best Buy. Sale, rebate, free delivery, I really researched like crazy. I think we did well. Love it, so far. It's so quiet that I forget it's on.

Bosch :thumbsup2

I got a middle of the road one (by the way, if you buy it at Lowes they do something with the tax that you don't pay a large amount of sales tax, not sure how the did it, but it saved me at least $50). It was on sale at Lowes, probably a $750 machine but with all of the combinable deals it was $550 installed, including sales tax and removal of old one.

I still don't believe how quiet that thing is. One time my contractor leaned on it and started it up and none of us even realized it was running and we were all standing around it!

I've had a Bosch for about 2 years and love it! I got one of the higher end models for the water softener option and super quiet operation and energy efficiency. It's very versatile as far as configuration, but large/thick dishes don't fit as well as the smaller/thinner ones that are popular in Europe.

Also, the european models do not use a heated dry and don't usually have a food grinder, like Kitchenaid for example. This is great if you're tired of your plastics melting and don't mind using something like Jet-Dry to facilitate drying. I crack my door open after the cycle and that seems to help dry dishes, as well.

I frequent Gardenweb/That Home Site and it has an appliance forum that's very helpful. They love Miele. Bosch and Kitchenaid are well liked, as well. One great piece of advice is to take your dishes with you to the store to see how your stuff fits.

Apparently, Lowes is having a sale now. 10% off, free delivery, free installation on a Bosch with rebate. Combine that with a moving coupon (if available) and you can get one for a nice price.

We just purchased a new Bosch last month. We like it so far. It is very quite which is what we wanted.

Big thumbs down to our Samsung -- it has been nothing but trouble since we got it!

When I finally get mad enough to throw it out in the front yard, it will be replaced by a Bosch.

We called a gentlemen who always works on all of our appliances and asked his opinion. He did not recomment Samsung. He did say Bosch was a wonderful machine, but he mentioned it's a pain to work on. He said parts are higher to get too. He actually recommended a Whirlpool. We have hard well water and don't have much luck with dishwashers! Thanks for letting me know about the Lowe's sale, too. I will be checking that out!

That's a good point a PP made about the drying. Dishes do dry much slower in the Bosch due to the no heating element thing or whatever it doesn't have. You can't take the dishes out right after the cycle ends because many things will still be wet. After a few hours though, it's fine. That only aggravates me when I realize right before dinner that no one ran the dishwasher all day and it's full and then by after dinner, the clean dishes aren't dry enough to take out yet. But that's more of a personal family problem, LOL!

Just got a bosch about a month ago, on sale at sears. Love it, it is very quiet. Cleans well. I start mine in the middle of the night and dont take the dishes out until dinner. It is smaller on the inside them by Kenmore was but there are only 2 of us, so not a problem

Two popular answers to this. Husbands recommend wives. Wives recommend husbands. They compromise and the kids get the job:thumbsup2

Then there is the downside....kids move out.

I've had my BOSCH for over 10years and I have had ONE service call, and it was my own fault. I broke a dish and a piece was lodged in the trap. The service guy showed me what to do if it happens again. I am more than happy with my machine. So what if the parts are more expensive-you won't need them!

I have an LG, I had one in my last house and bought the same one. It's super quiet. Our DW is near where we watch TV so that was super important. It was around $900 installed.

We replaced our Whirlpool with a KitchenAid. We are very happy with the new KitchenAid, it is super quiet. I would recommend a stainless steel tub! The dishwasher always seems clean and quiet.

We just bought a new dishwasher last month, and we ended up with a Whirlpool. It's great, very quiet and does a good job cleaning. Lots of space too. It was on sale for about $500 or so.

I've read lots of good things about Bosch, but I think they're a bit more expensive than Whirlpool.

Neve buy a Maytag; they are trash. We had one (that came with the house we bought) and it did a terrible job cleaning and was really loud. It died on us, and although I didn't want to spend the money on a new dishwasher, I was quiet happy to be rid of it.

We had a Whirpool in the last house, loved it no problems and quiet running, had it for years, moved last year, wish we would have moved the dishwasher with us as the one we have now is very loud and takes over an hour to run. All I can say is when this thing breaks down I will be replacing it with a whirlpool. I have bought Whirlpool appliances for the 40 yrs I have been out of my parents house and never been disappointed with performance, they have lasted me many years each and every time. The only reason I do not have Whirlpool right now is because the previous owners left non-Whirlpool appliances when we bought this house in the kitchen so I left my Whirlpool stuff in the old house. Grrrr.:headache:

Just read that there is a huge recall on Whirlpool dishwashers. They pose a fire threat. They arere the GE, Adora, Eterna, Profile and Hotpoint. The paper this am said they were sold between March 2006 thru August 2009.

It's not Whirlpool. And your dates are off a bit as well. Don't want to panic folks unnecessarily. This is from GE's recall page.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the General Electric Company (GE) have announced a voluntary recall of 1.3 million Hotpoint®, GE® and GE Profile™, GE Eterna™ and GE Adora™ plastic tub dishwashers, manufactured between March 2006 through July 2006, and November 2006 through April 2008. These dishwashers are plastic tub dishwashers with front controls. They were sold in black, white, bisque, stainless steel and CleanSteel™ exterior colors and finishes. You can submit your model and serial number below or call the GE Hotline to determine if your dishwasher is included in the recall.

I have a KitchenAid and like it. In our old house we had a Whirlpool Gold.

Some of the features I like/prefer/don't like-

short cycle - on the Whirlpool we had a 30 min cycle. With the KA, it meets new standards - the quick wash is an hour long.
rinse only (again, not on the KA!)
Half load wash - only the top or bottom arms wash a partial load
delay start
indicator on front to show how much time is left
DON'T LIKE - the water softener feature on my KA! Can't buy the salt locally (get it from Amazon) but doesn't seem to make much of a difference.
