Thinking I may ask the doctor/nurse which diet is best to help keep a heart healthy? (assuming it is)
They most likely will say vegs & fruits. Is there a particular type diet that is best for the heart?

Barb, you are going to have to ask your physician this question. I can tell you that my husband has had two heart attacks and quadruple heart bypass surgery. Unfortunately the low fat and high refined carbohydrate diet he was told to follow, was not good for his diabetes.

He lost 40 pounds after his surgery, by eating low fat, but his cholesterol and triglycerides just kept going higher and higher.

He controls his carbohydrate intake now and his lipids and blood glucose reached healthy levels only 3 weeks after eliminating refined carbohydrates from his diet.

Good luck with this, Barb. Try to stop obsessing about heart disease. My husband's grandfather and three uncles died quite young because of heart disease (one uncle was 38 and the other 42). Their sisters, my husband's mother and aunt, have no heart disease. It only effects the men in the family.

Barb, you will stress yourself and aggravate any medical condition you may already have if you stay agitated about this subject. You are working on losing weight and you are doing great. Talk with your physician about how to retain good cardiac health and then do what you can, but stop stressing yourself out over this.

In my opinion, you will have a healthy heart if you eliminate refined carbohydrates from your diet.

Stop, worrying! It's not allowed, you know. No worrying allowed on WISH, it's in the by-laws, I'm positive.

I have found that if you hold on to a positive outlook and attitude and look for the silver lining in every situation, you wil find that silver lining. Just look for it, you'll see....you will find a silver lining if you look.

Worrying is a waste of energy and stresses you out. Be careful, Barb, if you keep worrying like this you could give yourself a heart attack

Definitely a question for your doctor -- for your cardiologist if you have one. From what I've learned (mostly from my cousin, who's Director of Nutrition at a major heart-health rehabilitation clinic), low-low-fat is the way to go for heart health. It's not the best approach for overall weight management, IMHO, but for heart-health, specifically, it seems to be the best approach.

Doc did tell me it's more beneficial to loose the fat than to loose the sodium. Its the fat that clogs the arteries.
