Best Deal on GPS Map Updates??

I have a Garmin that is well over a year old. Periodically, when I turn it on I get a message that it is time for map updates.

My brother lives in an area with many new roads. Is there a way to tell if the new roads would be part of the update? I am not sure if it was because the road was fairly new or they added a circle instead of a traffic light--the GPS had me all messed up.

Where is the best deal on map updates? Is it worth it to pay for lifetime updates? I guess I figure technology changes--will that make the lifetime updates not worth it. Any suggestions appreciated. :thumbsup2

I hope someone has a good suggestion. I replaced my last Garmin rather than update the maps. It would almost be worth it to do that again. Last time I checked, lifetime was $99, one time was $69 as I recall. Mine got me totally lost in an area with lots of new roads, so I need to do something.

I know you can buy the lifetime maps update card at Costco. I believe it was around $80.

The Garmin lifetime update cards go on sale @Target from time to time.

Otherwise, check-out eBay -- they tend to go lower than retail...

The lifetime maps (download edition) is $75 right now on Amazon.

I was seriously considering what to do about 6 months ago. I have the nuvi 350 and maps were a couple years out of date. I decided that I really liked the compact size of the nuvi and was used to using it so I decided to get the lifetime maps instead of a new unit. I bought the downloadable software through Amazon.

That reminds me...I got an e-mail about a month ago saying there was an update to the maps so I need to do that tonight.

Paying for lifetime map updates is the way to go, but even if you have the most recent maps, they usually don't reflect recent street changes.
