DSIL is taking a cruise with her son and grandkids from New York. They will stop at Port Canaveral for a day and visit MK for the day. What's the best way to buy the 1-day Magic Kingdom ticket for 2 adults and 3 kids? It's their first visit to Disney World. They have booked transfer already. Kids are 5 and 9 (twin). Thanks in advance for your kind assistance and insight!

Not to burst anyone's bubble but how long is the ship in port? Do they actually have enough time to go to MK?

Glad you asked, I was looking at a similar cruise for my family!

Depending on the cruise you'll either have 7am-9pm at port, or something like 11-8. The longer port stay could easily accommodate a day at a park (hourish transfer each way, so park opening until say 6pm?).

I wouldn't opt to try and go for the shorter time frame personally (let's say at most 6 hours x$100/person + transfer cost + exchange rate). But each their own I guess!

EDIT: I was looking at an RCL cruise (Anthem) at either 7 or 8 night Bahamas. The 8 night had the longer Port Canaveral stop (but no direct affiliation with Disney, obviously).

Only full price from Disney directly. 1 day tickets are subject to seasonal pricing too. On the website you can find how much they are for the day she would be there. We once changed our day at MK from Friday to Thursday because it was low season pricing for the Thurs and high season for Fri (beginning of Spring break season).

Is it on DCL, check what the price is for booking an excursion, it would include transfers and ticket and may work out less. If it is another cruise line they still may offer an excursion that includes the ticket.

At one time the DCL cruises that stopped in Port Canaveral included the ticket in the cruise fees, but unfortunately I have not been keeping up on DCL these days so that has probably changed.

Most cruise lines that have a stop in Port Canaveral will have an excursion to the park, including ticket and transfers. Only issue is of course you can't make fast passes. But I do agree, you'd have to buy the tickets through Disney for the best price, which is still expensive.

I'd check the hours of MK that day. If its an EMH day, it will be crowded. Not sure they'd get their $$ worth for 6 hrs or so, especially if it's a crowded EMH day. If they buy their tickets through disney they'd at least be able to make FP in advance.

In fact, DCL cruises sailing from NYC that have a day in PC still include a hopper ticket with three FP+ and free transportation to the parks. The busses run continuously from 7:30AM to park closing. The FP’s do not have to be reserved. Guests can just show up to any attraction, including FoP, 7DMT and Na’vi River.
