Day 0: A “First Class” Flight…

We left for our trip after work on Tuesday May 2nd. My dad picked us up from our house in the morning so that we could leave our luggage in his car, and he drove us to work. Then at 5pm he promptly picked us up and drove us to Newark airport. We were officially on vacation!

I dyed my hair a temporary red/burgundy. You couldn't see it too well in the dark but in the sun it looked pretty red.
Probably going to cut most of it off pretty soon anyways.

We usually fly United and Newark is a United hub so there is an entire terminal for United airlines, Terminal C. However, today was the first time we were leaving form Terminal B. I checked and double checked and indeed our flight was Terminal B. My dad, though, is an old-fashioned creature of habit. He kept insisting United left from Terminal C and was just going to drive us there but in the end I convinced him to just turn into Terminal B and I’d hop down and find out for sure. Turns out our flight did leave from B, which is predominantly an international terminal, but United has use of about 2 gates there. So we unloaded, said good bye to my dad, and went off to find our gate.

Since B is mostly an international terminal with airlines such as Luftansa, Alitalia, Japan Airlines, and the like…there is barely any signage for United. We had to ask around and we were directed to the floor below the main check in desks for the little United desk there. Luckily, there was no one around and we were checked in pretty quickly. We only had one bag to check for the 2 of us, and we picked up our first class boarding passes and were on our way!

Side note: maybe because United is hurting for some business but I was offered an upgrade us to first class on our departing flight for a very good price so I took it. Unfortunately we were not given the same offer on our return flight, although for the same price I could upgrade to Economy Plus. No thank you.

The nice thing about being in Terminal B is that we get to use a lounge there, called Art and Lounge. One of my credit cards gives us lounge access so we spent the majority of time there. They provide a small buffet of food, pasta, chicken, salads, cookies, plus lots of sodas and drinks. We got to charge our phones and use wifi. It is pre-security though so we left about 45 minutes before our boarding time just so we could go through security at a decent time. Fortunately we are also pre-check. It didn’t matter though, the security lines were completely empty pre-check or no pre-check. Apparently the best time to fly is a Tuesday evening.

In the Art and Lounge

We boarded our flight, and realized it wasn’t even a full flight which is probably why first class upgrades were so cheap. Haha. We ordered drinks, I got some tomato juice and steve got a diet coke, which turned into to bloody marys and white wine after we took off. J We enjoyed the direct TV on the way down, which was nice.

Look an extra 3.75 inches of leg room. Gosh what a TREAT.

Leaving Newark:

I got up to use the bathroom once, and I know there’s a bathroom right behind the cockpit so I headed up, but when I got to the front, one of the flight attendants said I had to use the one in the back. I thought the bathroom was broken, so I walked all the way to the rear then all the way back. Incidentally no one else used the bathroom in the front, so I indeed thought it was broken. But it was a short 2 hour and 15 min flight anyways.

We made it to MCO in good time. No delays thank goodness. As we were deplaning the same flight attendant saw me and said, "OMG, were you sitting in first the entire time? You could have used the bathroom in first! Did you walk all the way back?"

Me: “Yes.”

Flight Attendant: “OMG I am so sorry, I didn’t realize you were sitting right there. I’m sorry you had to walk all the way back.

Me: “It’s ok, really”

Flight Attendant: “I’m really sorry!”​

Me: “No worries.”

I didn’t know whether to laugh or be mad. I paid for first class and I didn’t even get to use the first class facilities.
In the end I just laughed it off, because, well, it wasn't a big deal, we had arrived safely, and I was going to Disney! All was fine, really.

But maybe I just don’t look like I belong in first class.

We exited the terminal and took the faux-rail to baggage claim. It was close to 11:30pm at this time. Luckily our bags were flagged as priority and was the one of the first ones on the belt. Even my luggage looks like it belongs in first class more than me.

Arrival at MCO​

We walked over to the Hyatt Regency MCO which is quickly becoming our second home. Just so convenient to stay here after a late flight. We were on the 9th floor, in a room identical to the ones we stayed at previously. As an FYI, you can go to the gym on the 6th floor and get free purified water there. So DH went to fill up our water bottles there. We ate a late night snack of cup-o-noodles which I packed and soon we were showered and in bed…

Best Day Ever? A resounding no...I mean I'm glad we arrived safely in Orlando with no hiccups, but I wasn't given the first class treatment that I paid for...

Thank you so much! We had a great time. May the 4th was really fun. It's not like a must-do, I found out it's more so for the merchandise that people flock to DHS on that day. I should have bought more stuff though!

Yay, yay, yay! This will help alleviate my pre-Disney obsessions a bit. I always start watching/reading everything Disney related even more than usual because I get so excited

We aren't doing this on our trip either, and I don't quite know what to do with myself! We've eaten there at least once basically every trip since we first tried it. So yummy!

I know! I wasn't able to get ADRs for this trip, so we're eating dinner in August and breakfast in Oct. So I guess that will make up for not eating there this trip.

I have to say, Boardwalk is one of my favorites. It may just be that we've stayed there a few times now and it kind of feels like "home," but it's so convenient! And I just love the theming (and basically everything about it).

Oh man, the convenience is the best, just loved it. And the decor was gorgeous (aside from scary clown slide) - I may have liked it even more than Beach Club interior, just speaking from the lobby decor.

The craziest thing is that yours is the one TR where I can not see the pictures?! Why would that beeeee?!!!! Boo hoo. I even make sure I log in and I can't see them!

Oh no! That's crazy. I'm not sure why. I store my photos on Google. Maybe it works on a different browser? Sometimes that helps.

Although the owner I got it from, seemed MIA for the past few weeks when I tried to email him about our flight schedule for ME. In the end I ended up doing it myself. I know you may have been annoyed at the time, but that is HYSTERICAL that the flight attendant was so concerned that she sent you to the "non-first class bathroom"! I'm sure she was mortified! (Perhaps you should've asked for some extra snacks as "compensation" for having to use the lowly economy bathroom on your way out? )

It was a cute lounge but a bit small. It was nice to have a drink and some food before the flight though.

I probably drank enough bloody mary's to compensate ...and yes, she was mortified, especially after all the bad press United was getting. I'm sure they don't' need any more. I didn't really care either way, and it was pretty funny in the end. But I am still a failure at first class.

I'm just passive aggressive enough that I would have asked if the first class loo was broken when told to use "the commoner's bathroom" and if I was told no I would have been all" well I'm sitting in first class, why can't I use this one??"

I've never stayed at the Hyatt MCO, but what a great idea for a late night arrival. How does that work with the ME the next day? Do you just give them a fake flight # for the next day?
