Best creative idea for character autographs??

I guess my idea is still pretty close to just a plain autograph book, but I used clip-art pictures of all the characters I wanted autographs of, used MS Publisher to create the book with 1/2 sized pages, and took it to Office Depot to have it printed and bound (on heavy duty card-stock to make it easier to sign).

That way, I could choose the picture I wanted to use and was a bit different than the ones that are sold in bulk, and I could personalize it any way I wanted.

We have this book and I love this idea! Now, if only the book was in better shape and didn't have pages missing!

My daughter (7 at the time) loves to draw and create. She took a blank sketch book and drew and colored each character we could see on it. Then had them sign their page. We posed the photo with her and the character holding her sketch.

Best part was that it was all her idea.

We are doing it again this year and using it as a tool to see how much her drawing improves year after year.

I got tied of shelling out so much for an autograph book that is thrown aside as soon as we get home! So for our May trip (Oldest dons 8th, babies 1st out of the womb) I made a book on snapfish using pictures of ODS with the characters through the years. So each character has their own page for the bigger names, and then shared pages for groups - Disney jr., toy story characters, etc. then I used favorite pics of DS in Disney in the back in faded B&W for new character autographs, or duplicates. Since we will be there for SWW, I did several pages of him with SW characters from last year. When I'm doing a book for Sept, I'll replace the SW pages with MNSSHP pages, add in new pis on the other pages, and print again! I'll make one for YDS as soon as he's old enough! DS loves it and can't wait to show the characters!

If you search online, you can find good coupon codes to make a photo book for the same or a little more than a Disney autograph/photo book!

What our Disney-Fanatic quilters are doing is two slightly different things - but both only require carrying around one piece of fabric.

One quilt will have a large (12 1/2 by 12 1/2 foot square of plain white fabric (stabilized - freezer paper is a great idea) for all the characters to sign, then she is doing a pattern around it with Disney Fabrics (so the signatures are the center square).

The other quilt is two or three different squares - but then she is using all her old Disney T-Shirts to be the rest of the squares, so it's a "Disney T-Shirt Quilt" with signatures.

Mummy Butterfly: I love the idea of the central square! That would have been so much better than all the teeny-tiny piping and sashing that I did. I am pretty sure you meant 12 1/2 INCH rather than foot though, haha. I will definitely use that idea if I do another one in the future.

I also love the Disney tshirt idea. I did one of those for my daughter with all of her school tshirts. It was a lot of work, but so worth it.

Not my idea - I saw it posted in a thread a while back. The poster had the characters sign her Mickey Mouse apron with a thick sharpie. I think I might give it a go on my next visit.

Really?!??

Autographs are one of the last few actual personal things about Disney visits? My daughter still looks through her book months later and can recall the interaction with each character.

I doubt handing them a laser printed card would have the same effect?

*gasp* This is genius!!! I'd be lining up to buy a set! Excellent idea!

I buy a mini photo album at Michael's (I think they're less than $2 and hold 24 photos.) I bring 4x6 color index cards for the characters to sign with sharpies. I make sure to take a photo of my kids with each character whose autograph they get and put them in the album opposite the characters signature. Before our trip I "let" my kids decorate a cover page for their album With Disney-themed scrapbook embellishments. This year my daughter was old enough to write her name and the year with puffy paints. They look great and make the best souvenirs. We look at the albums ALL the time!! Plus they hold a lot more photos and autographs than the books you buy in the park.
(Tip- I also bring a very small clipboard that holds the index cards and provides a surface for the characters to lean on.

We bought pillow shams from disneystore.com and used fabric markers. Fabric markers are supposed to make a solid line without the ink spreading when you write. I was careful to NOT buy the markers that require heat to set.

Thought about using one of those stitching rings but figured it would take too long. Instead, we just held a section of the pillow sham over an autograph book to make it easy for the character to sign.

I would love to bring some plain squares of fabric to get characters to sign to sew into a quilt after the trip. It would be easier to carry around and be a really nice way to remember the trip. Now if only I could quilt lol

My sister's former MIL did this. She took plain muslin squares and a fabric marking pen, and had the characters sign the squares. When she got home, she embroidered over each signature, stitched bright borders on each square (some in a character-coordinated color, so Belle's is yellow, Cindy's is light blue, Aurora's is pink), and made quilts for her granddaughters. She said the only problem with this is that the vacation became all about getting enough autographs. She said if she had it to do again, she'd probably have focused on getting just enough autographs to make a large throw pillow rather than a full-sized single bed quilt, or would alternate signature squares with disney-themed fabric squares… just too much vacation time spent hunting down characters and waiting in their lines. (the quilts are pretty fabulous, though!)

A few years ago my then 7 year old son had to have Mickey hands. Well, 3 years later we are going to put them to use and bring them for characters signatures. He can bring one hand/ glove at a time and use fabric markers to have characters sign them. It's a little different and we won't have to worry about finding an empty page or accidentally bending a photo insert. We already have 5 autograph books so it's time to change it up.
