Best Counter Service at MK?

We will be doing a lunch our first day and were planning on heading to Frontierland first. How is Peco Bills? Do they have more than just burgers, or hot dogs / baked beans for the kids?

We would like to keep the fried foods to a minimum so we are looking for healthier choices. I do love the idea that instead of fries they offer either fruit or carrots. Are they the little snack bags of baby carrots? My kids love them.

And where do you get these Dole Whips I have been reading about. Never had one but will definately try one this go around.

If anyone has any other suggestions for CS at the MK, please do tell. Frontierland, or Liberty Square would be the most convenient for us but I don't mind a little walking to try something better.

Thanks,

J

we ate at Pecos Bills the night we went to MNSSHP and it was very good, I had the pulled pork and my wife had a chicken wrap with our son. Sandwich's were big too. A castmember said that Pecos Bill's was best CS in MK, and though that's personal preference, it's our experience too.

Columbia Harbour House is right down the road, so to speak, and has some healthier choices like tuna on whole grain bread and grilled chicken strips salad. I've had both and they are delicious. Remember to eat upstairs where it is quieter. Dole whips are in Adventureland near the Tiki Birds I think. Well, around there somewhere! :)

Hey thanks homedad and eclectics - I am sure we will probably do either one of those. Does anyone know what the chilled chicken is for kids listed at Columbia Harbour house? Is it chilled grilled chicken, or chicken salad? That might be good. Been perusing the menus as you see.

The chilled chicken is grilled. It like the chicken sold in the grocery store thats already cooked ans sliced (Perdue short cuts or something like that)

Its is served with cheddar cheese cubes and grapes

Is our favorite.I tried the pulled pork sandwich this time and it was great, as was the peanutbutter mousse brownie thingy.

We also had Columbia Harbor House (both of us had the fish baskets) and were not particularly impressed, but the apple pie and the cole slaw were outstanding there.

Cosmic Rays has some pretty decent non fried choices also. We ate there twice last week. First time I had a grilled chicken sandwich with pasta salad and Dh had the pulled pork sandwich with chips. The second time we both had the turkey club wrap with pasta salad. It was huge and very good.
We shared with DD 2 1/2 at all of the restaurants so I don't know much about the kid meals. They also had a rotisserie chicken meal that looked pretty good.

Pecos Bills has a great salad (can't remember the name of it). I always get that and really enjoy it. You can get it with or without chicken. I used to order it with chicken, but it was so big, I couldn't finish. Now I order it without and it's so good!

Just tried a Dole whip for the first time a few weeks ago. I really liked it! I got the "float" (pineapple soft serve ice cream served in a cup over pineapple juice). It was very good - but really, really huge! I only ate about 1/3 of it. Might be something good to split with someone.

Our favorite is Columbia Harbour House. The selections seem less like counter service, and everything we've had there has been delicious. We had decent food at Pecos Bill's the two times we ate there, but we definitely like CHH better.

The Dole Whips are at Aloha Island I believe it's called. On your way back to Main Street, up from Swiss Family Treehouse, on the opposite side. Mmmmm so good! :cloud9:

I second the vote for Cosmic Rays. We went there twice this trip and there are definitely healthy selections from the sandwich/salad section. I had the turkey bacon wrap twice, which is served with grapes or pasta salad. Others in our group had the chicken noodle soup, ceasar salad, grilled chicken sandwich (which you can top with stuff from the fixins bar). We thought this was a great alternative to burgers/fries. Also, the first time we went we split 3 meals between 6 of us -- it was that much food! The wraps and salads are huge! I almost could not finish just half of the wrap. We had the dining plan so they allowed a side with the salad and we also got dessert. It was a ton of food. The second time we went we used one CS per person since they were going to expire at midnight that night.

I've been to Pecos Bills before and thought the food there was great too, although I think Cosmic Rays has a bigger selection. We didn't make it to Pecos Bills this time since we were never over there when we were hungry. Guess we'll have to plan another trip...

Casey's! Hotdogs, toppings, and the best fries around.

Thanks all for your comments. I have a pretty good idea of what to expect and it does seem like all the CS do have at least some healthier choices these days. I guess we will see when we get there. Only 2 weeks from today - YIPPEE!!!!

I like Pecos Bill's, but I also think Cosmic Ray's has a better selection for kids...plus Sonny Eclipse. ;)

It's a snack, but I love that vanilla frozen yogurt/ orange juice cone swirl near the Flying Carpets in Adventureland. That and the dole whip. I just eat ice cream all day :goodvibes

I have to add another vote for Consmic ray's Starlight Cafe. Although it is in Tomorrowland and you will have a little walk it is worth it for the selection. Go to www.allearsnet.com to the menus section and check it out. They offer rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, cornbread, vegetabkes, soups, salads and sandwiches along with the regular burgers and fries selection.

I have to put a vote in for The Pinocchio Village Haus, we had salads and Grilled Turkey sandwiches everything was good. It is in Fantasyland next to It's a small world
