Best Coasters??

Well it was my DH said book DDP coz he knows how much my mum prefers TS when we go away anywhere. She isn't one for fighting to find a table in places. I've never stayed CL anywhere so the whole thing will be an experience for me. Originally, I saw GF as we were passing on monorail last time and thought it looked nice and then we had character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare on one of the last mornings of our trip last Oct and the moment I walked in, the whole place just took my breath away. It's SO beautiful I've NEVER felt like that before... when I told my DH, he insisted we stay there coz he said only the best was good enough for "his girl" and the whole thing kind of escalated from there. We hadn't actually shown my mum where she will be staying until the other day and she had tears in her eyes. I think I just want the ultimate itinerary for all of us but then, when I've thought about it, I've realised Universal is really going to be asking a bit TOO much.

Yes my DS is autistic and he'll be 7 when we go. I took him to Lapland at Xmas and he was ok going in a sled with another child (a snowmobile pulled a massive sled with all the kids and all the adults rode snowmobiles on a night safari) but I do take your point on board. We're off to Majorca at half term so am going to try him with kids club for an hr or 2 and see how he handles it. Obviously, I don't want to put him in a situation he can't handle but I also want him to enjoy his holiday as independently as possible.

Seriously the RPC offerings are plentiful. And 5 times a day. Of course you'll want a couple TS but you probably don't need one every day and it's more than enough for breakfast. (Lots of 1900PF offerings.)

Just remembered there's 2 levels of CL - but I think the other one (Sugarloaf?) has the same food.

Also IPO will gladly book your all your meals, spa and fireworks cruise for you. They did for us (we had 3 boats) and it was pretty seamless.

So you can focus more on your July trip - unless that's CL too - then you can relax even more!!

Such a shame your Dad won't be able to propose on the trip too, he must be so disappointed.

I'd also shift Seaworld to when you are there for 14 nights, especially as you have DPP and will be eating at Disney, you don't want to have TS credits left at the end of your seven days.

No, we wanted CL for the July trip but couldn't find a good enough deal at YC which is where we wanted to stay. Have spoken to IPO who are going to book limo transfers for us and sort out our fireworks cruise. Loads of people on various forums have said they found it better to book dining reservations themselves than go through IPO though.

He is gutted but he has a cunning plan! He's surprising her with a trip to the Scottish highlands for Xmas which is where he's from and he's going to propose in the castle where he originally proposed to her! :)

oh gosh, how romantic, its like a Mills and Boons :)

Certainly plenty of castles to choose from in Scotland, can't guarantee the weather though.

So pleased you got to Lapland, I thought you had cancelled it. I'd love to see the Northern Lights, one day, one day pixiedust:

Yes, we were SO lucky and had a MAJOR breakthrough with Dylan's autism both then (in Lapland) and on a trip to the theatre (I think it's that whole thing of it being a different "world" to anything "real" as my son has "autism through trauma"... Autistic children seem to find places like Disney REALLY help). All these places where adults all love coz they can be kids again, he seems to really come into his own in :)

Apologies for my ignorance. What is autism through trauma?

He displays some Autistic traits but where Autism is usually thought to be genetic and something you're just born with, my son has had such horrific trauma at a VERY early age that he's built a bubble around himself like a forcefield where nothing can hurt him as a defence mechanism and now outwardly presents with Autistic traits even though he hasn't been born with Autism. At least that's what CAMHS said in their report.

Ah thanks for that. Hope you didn't mind me asking. I was just curious. I had always understood that autism was not necessarily something a child was born with but haven't closely followed studies. So I was curious :)

It's absolutely fine, no apologies necessary whatsoever and I would like to just take a min to point out I am NOT an expert or anything like on the subject. I simply deal with whatever challenges come up and take on board whichever bits I need to as I think most parents would as we all know how busy life gets with children at the best of times! Wouldn't like to think I might accidentally upset someone by coming across the wrong way!

Although no one is 100% certain about the causes of autism, most experts believe that it's genetic rather than environmental. If your interested in learning more then there was a Horizon program about autism on BBC last night that's available on iPlayer. (As its World Autism Awareness day and my son is on the spectrum I'm pointing as many people as I can in its direction!)

Thank you, I will check it out :thumbsup2

There was a fascinating article in the NY Times a couple of weeks ago where a father shared how a love of Disney had enabled their son to communicate with them. It was a long article and covered twenty or so years in the son's life but it was so thought provoking.

I work with autistic children who cover a wide range of the spectrum and it was really interesting to hear this story.

Thanks for posting about related articles/programmes guys. I'll be sure to check them out too :) Would be quite interesting, I just always found when trying to do my own research that there was WAY too much stuff out there to take it all in hence I just stuck to whatever I needed to at the time. We've found anything to do with "magic" has been the key for Dylan. Escalators are now referred to as "magic stairs" (lol). He very rarely communicates still but we know now that if we make things seem "magical", we can break through the bubble as it were for just that little bit longer. It really is MAGICAL when you get to "reach" your child for whatever amount of time. A Facebook slogan once said - An Autistic child isn't ignoring you, they're simply waiting for you to enter their world. There aren't many times Dylan lets me into his world but Disney, Lapland and theatre are places where he forgets we're in two different "worlds" and the forcefield comes down - no amount of money can buy that! :) APOLOGIES FOR POSTING UNRELATED MATERIAL ON A THREAD THAT STARTED OFF BEING ABOUT ROLLERCOASTERS! Oooops! ;) x

I just wanted to add due to it being an.interesting subject that my son's is due to him being severely sick with strep b when born and needing a huge amount of very strong antibiotics, he was placed on a Inus trial drug that was either going to help save his life or do nothing, 8 hours after having it he pulled his ventilator out "after being on 100% for 9 days! It saved his life but came with side effects that was monitored for the 1st 5 years of his life.

This was 11years ago when they barely knew about strepb dangers in labour,
Xx

Awww, sorry to hear about your son but bet you would never change him for the world, would you?! I always thought I'd never be able to handle having a child with any kind of disabilities let alone everything we been through this last 5 yrs but I never realised how strong I was as a person til then :)
