I am just starting to plan a once-in-a-lifetime trip to WDW over Christmas. I was wondering what the best resorts were (based on decorations)? I'd like to visit a few of the resorts while we are there. If anyone is willing to share a picture or two, that'd be great too :goodvibes .

I've heard the Wilderness Lodge has beautiful decorations. I haven't seen for myself, but that's the one I hear about the most.

You will undoubtedly get overwhelming suggestions for WL, and it is beautiful. But all the resorts are decorated in different ways for the holidays. I really like Beach Club with it's Beach holiday theme. Keeping in mind I'm from Colorado, so the lodge theme at WL is something I see all the time..therefore I might be biased :lmao:

The resorts I think are best suited to a Christmas visit are Grand Floridian (if your vision of Christmas is more Victorian/Dickensian) or Wilderness Lodge (for a more cozy, backwoods feel). The Epcot resorts tend to have fabulous displays in their lobbies also, and are well worth taking some time to seek out.

wl/vwl, GF, BC/BCV, YC, BWI/V - AKL/V (this is worth the trip)

even like the moderates

POR

values
POP - maybe AOA this year since it is the newest.

I sound like a broken records, but how about Fort Wilderness with a golf cart? The campers decorate their sites so it's a festival of Christmas lights and blow-ups EVERYWHERE.

It's so festive, it's really fun to come home from a night at the parks and see all th lights. Plus you can bring some of your own - a string around your deck railing or some lights in the window. It's awesome. We'll never stay anywhere else at Christmas.

can they still do that with the new rules?

It has been a while - either last year or early this year.

they don't want people to overuse their plugs. So it is a long list.

I'll have to look into it - thanks for the info.

That's a great idea! Thanks. (Or maybe not, if they've disallowed them.)

We stayed at the WL & Poly this past Christmas-Poly ended up to be our favorite, but the WL lobby was breathtaking, especially at night when Santa and the carolers came.

We ended up spending a half day on Christmas Eve at FW though, rented a golf cart and went to the HDDR. The campers definitely still had their campsite, trailer, and cabin decorations full-fledged :goodvibes The decorations were amazing! Just "streets" & "streets" of lights, inflatable decorations, very detailed holiday scenes..... our visit to FW and driving our golf cart around looking at all the decorations was our favorite activity of our trip!!:goodvibes

WL :) So rustic and beautiful at Christmas!

can they still do that with the new rules?

During Christmas 2010, we took a carriage ride through Fort Wilderness and it was well worth the $60.00. It was so beautiful. We did the same thing last December and wondered what had happened to all the decorations from the previous year. I think that the new rules had made a huge difference as others had suggested on previous threads about this.

The top two are Grand Floridian and Wilderness Lodge.

After that there is a big gap to the next best:
BW/BC/YC

We were very disappointed in the Contemporary last year - hardly any decorations.

What about AKL? We are considering that for our stay.

AKL doesn't do as much for Christmas as you'd see at WL.

They have a large tree in the lobby and lighted swags hanging from the balconies surrounding the lobby, which is basically the same thing they have in the WL lobby. I would definitely check out both.
