Best Character Meals

Hi everyone! I'll be going to WDW in 2014 with my best friend (a Disney first timer). We'll be using the Dining Plan and were planning on using our Table Service meals for Character Meals. I would like to ask, what are your top 5 Character Meals? And which are your least favorite? Thanks everyone!

So far, I've done CRT and 1900 Park Fare for breakfast. I loved the characters at each. I would suggest picking the character meal based on which characters you want to see. It's so much easier to take a picture with them at a meal than it is to find them in the park.

We did all our character meals as breakfasts before park opening. This was great for us. We got to see and interact with the characters, plus get photos. This allowed us to get on the headliners early and then have a relaxed rest of the day. Getting up really early isn't for everyone, but it worked out nicely for us.

I think the best character meal for us was Akershus. You got to see all the princesses, and use only a single table service credit. The food was good, not great. Getting a picture with the meal was a plus.

We enjoyed CRT, but at two table service credits, it's an expensive option. The food was nicely prepared and presented.

Tusker House had the best food overall. The characters were Donald and Goofy in their safari gear.

We also did breakfast at Hollywood and Vine. The food there was excellent, but the characters were for really little kids.

We have eaten at:

Tusker House breakfast & lunch

Crystal Palace breakfast, lunch & supper

Cape May breakfast

Ohana breakfast

Chef Mickeys breakfast

CRT breakfast

Food wise we prefer breakfast at all the places. We aren't big buffet eaters so we think the food at breakfast is better.

We disliked the food at CRT...but that is the only place we did.

We went to Chef Mickeys this trip...was our first visit there. I loved it!! The food was great & the characters awesome. We had 4 character meals & it was our favorite of the trip.

Cape May is another favorite. It is a smaller restaurant & quieter...but is harder to get to by bus system.

Ohanas & Tusker House are both good & the characters fun. Crystal Palace is good too.

I have all boys so we haven't done any of the princess ones
Tusker House Breakfast is our fav!
Our #2 would probably be Garden Grill

We've also done Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's and Hollywood & Vine. The only one that we will not go back to is Hollywood & Vine.

ETA: We also tried Ohana's breakfast but we prefer to do character breakfasts in the park if at all so that's the only reason it isn't higher on my list.

We've done every character meal.

My favorite food wise was O'hana - love the juice and pineapple bread!

I feel like most of the meals have roughly the same food.

Tusker House and Akershus were also favorites, for the food.

All character interaction was fantastic for us. I second the PP - choose which characters you want to see and go for that meal. I can't even fathom how much park time we gained by meeting all the characters during meal times.

We did Crystal Palace and Tusker House for lunch our last trip. Food was okay, but the character interaction was excellent at both. My DGD was afraid of Eeyore until he started playing peek-a-boo with her! In Feb, we are going back to both places for breakfast this time, plus Chef Mickey's and Akershus. =)

'Ohana breakfast is my favorite. After that Chef Mickey.

Was not impressed with the food at either CRT breakfast or 1900 Park Fare.

In September we did character meals at Tusker House, Chef Mickey's and Hollywood and Vine with an almost three year old. Chef Mickey's was for breakfast, and had nice characters but was pretty busy. The food was fine, but basically standard buffet breakfast stuff. We really enjoyed our lunch at Hollywood and Vine, where the food quality and variety surprised us and we had the best character interaction of the whole trip. It was our favorite of the three! Tusker house had the best food variety (we went there for lunch) but was the most crowded and probably had the least character interaction for us.

For our next trip we can't wait to do Crystal Palace before the park opens, and we'll try Akerhaus and Ohana too. We can't wait!

LOVE your user name! We're going to Tusker House lunch on our next trip so I'm always happy to hear a positive about the food.

On our last trip we did 1900 Park. The character interaction was good. We got pictures with everyone, and the Mad Hatter and Pooh came back and back and back. No kids btw, just two kidlike adults. The food, however, was not good. Cold, lifeless. It was a rare miss for us because we usually enjoy it all so we won't be back.

We were just there a couple of weeks ago and did 3 character meals. They were all good.

CRT Breakfast: Liked this one the most. We all thought the food was awesome and good character interaction. We saw Cindy for the welcome picture and then while eating it was Snow White, Aurora, Ariel and Jasmine.

1900 Park Fare Breakfast: Food was just pretty good. Standard breakfast buffet stuff. Characters were GREAT. We saw Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatter, Tigger and Pooh. I liked that the characters came in a group so it gave you time to get up and get your food and eat while they were in another area. We ended up seeing most of them twice.

Tusker House Lunch: Probably my least favorite of the 3. I thought the food was good but DH thought it was only so-so. Character interaction not as great. We saw Donald for a welcome pic and then while eating it was Daisy, Goofy and Mickey. They all moved around separately so it was hard to tell when to get food and when exactly they would be coming. It is a huge room and we ended up waiting forever just to have Mickey stop by our table.

I am not a huge buffet fan and looking back wish I would have picked another non-buffet one. Much nicer (especially with younger kids) to not have to get up and worry about when the characters will come around.

My fave character meals are:
Crystal palace - amazing food, all meals. great character interaction. the best actually.
tusker house - breakfast is fantastic. I didn't like the lunch thou.
cape may breakfast- great food. love the fact that its quieter than other character buffets. cute characters.

2nd place:

1900 and Ohana, breakfast for both. good food at both places. But I liked the other 3 more for some reason. but the food at both are wonderful. I like the fact that at ohana you sit and relax and let the food come to you.
