We ordered dd10 an ipod touch for Christmas, and now need to decide on a case. I personally have a leather pouch for mine, but I would like to get her something more protective in case of drops (though she is a very careful kid). I looked into the Otterbox cases but there are some complaints about the screen cover affecting the look of the screen, and also the hardness of the case either cracking screens or scratching the ipod.

What's the best one? Thanks

If you want to protect that ipod from drops, the otterbox is still your best hope. The screen cover only affects the look of the screen if you don't clean it or if it gets gouged/scratched. That's still better than your ipod screen getting gouged or cracked. My otterbox never scratched my ipod case or screen. My biggest complaint is the mass that it adds to what should be a sleek and compact little device. The otterbox is bulky and unattractive no matter what color you get.

We have Speck Candyshell cases with Zaag screen protectors for 3 iPod and 1 iPhone. Two of the iPods belong to my dds (9 and 12) and have been dropped many times, tossed in ski bags, fallen out of the cars, among other things and are in great shape.

I have dropped my phone twice my hands on to concrete. No damage.

My parents just got iPhones with Otterboxes, I don't like them. They are very bulky and when trying to show my dad how to do things with his phone, I noticed the screen wasn't very responsive and you have to touch A LOT harder than with mine. He picked up mine and noticed the difference and is going to figure out how to remove the plastic screen protector and put on one like mine.

Does anyone have recommendations for cases for the iPod touch 3rd gen? I really like the look of the Candyshell but it seems those are only available for 4th gen now, and we're planning on buying refurbished from Apple so we'll likely get DD10 a 3rd gen model.

I just looked, they have some on Amazon.

I have an Otter Box Defender series on my iPhone 4, no problems at all. On my old iPhone, I had an Otter Box Defender, no problems with that either.

For a kid (or really anyone), there is no other option than an Otterbox. I've never had any issues with functionality of my Itouch. I've heard stories of them being dropped time after time with no problem...even having them get pretty wet with no problem. (not submerged, but just wet.)

Otterbox. My dd actually had her screen crack. I asked the guy at the Apple store as they had a whole wall of them.... he told me to go to Amazon or ebay and get an otterbox!! We did, best purchase ever(got ours off ebay) Hands down the best protectant ever!

Try Marshall's, Ross, TJ MAX or Tuesday Morning :goodvibes

Do you need a screen protector with the speck cases? When my ipod is not in use I have a leather pouch that it fits in (was made for the ipod--my DH bought it at the Apple store when he got my ipod). I haven't put a screen cover on it otherwise. If my DD got a candyshell case and then stored it in something like a Vera Bradley coin pouch would that be enough to protect the screen without an actual screen protector film?

After researching this, I think I'm going to get my girls the Otterbox Commuter case:

Amazon.com

It seems to provide good protection but not as bulky as the Otterbox Defender (my kids hate the bulky cases). I'll get them each their favorite color so we can easily tell who's is who's.
